Take the laptop apart techgeek564.

You Definitely do Not want it roaming around in there, to short out the laptop.

Here is the Service Manual, (Free),

http://www.tim.id.au/blog/tims-laptop-service-manuals/#toc-toshiba

Go to the 11th line down.
The one that starts with > Satellite A10
In this listing of files go down to the second line, (Starts with > C650D), and then go across to >
L450. Click on L450.

[The Toshiba Satellite L455-S5989 is part of the Toshiba Satellite L450 series ]

After you click on L450 it will take about 5 seconds to see the first page, and additional time to fully download.
(Took 45 seconds for me just now)
Suggest you let the file download all the way before looking through it.

You are not permanently downloading the file. If you want to save a copy to your computer, and do not know how, post in a Comment.

[This way you won't have to download again. You can also burn a copy of to a CD disk for safekeeping, and having access anytime you want.
Further, you can delete the file from your harddrive after burning a copy, and save harddrive space ]

A) ALL power removed from the laptop. AC adapter (Charger) and Battery.

B) Buy and use an ESD wrist strap. Connect the alligator clip to a good ground source.
(Electro Static Discharge)

Your body carries Static electricity, and Static WILL fry out (Short Circuit) the hardware components inside a computer.
The ESD wrist strap will relieve your body of Static, and safeguard your laptop from Static shock

Average price of an ESD wrist strap is around $3 to $6. Much cheaper than a new laptop.

C) Use a multi-compartment container for the various screws you will remove.
Mark each compartment for the area the screws come out of.
There may be as many as 60 screws, and 12 different types.
Do Not mix them up!

You can use a clean egg carton, and mark the egg holders.

D) Make a record as you disassemble. Make drawings and notes. Use a camera, or videocam if available.
(Use Good lighting)
It's nice to have a record to refer back to in case you get interrupted.

2) Put all of those screws back in. Tighten, but Do Not over-tighten.

3) http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/Toshiba_Satellite_M55/laptop_motherboard_1.htm

Scroll down, click on the photo for Step 2.
Remove the screw for the Wireless Module Cover. (Wireless card)
Lift the cover up ON the screw side.
There are tabs on the other side. (Side facing you)

Close the small window. Now click on the photo in Step 3.
White cable (Wire), and Black cable. Make a small mark on the White wire, (Sharpie?), and near the terminal on the Wireless Module Card the white wire goes to.

Remove the screw/s, remove the Wireless Module Card.

Reinstall in reverse.

Can not open my toshiba laptop

Ok, on a laptop you need to get some cups and label them toput the screws in so you will know where they came from. Remove the PowerCord, Remove the Battery then start removing all thescrews from the bottom of the laptop. Then remove all the devices fromthe bottom of the laptop such as the hard drive, the memory, dvd/cd drive, wireless card, etc. Take note of how the wires are on the wireless card, those are the antennas.

Look inside the battery case, hard drive case, memory case and dvd drive slotfor screw. Some screws on the bottom case in inside of some of the devicecases might have the icon of a keyboard next to it. Those screws hold thekeyboard in place.

Turn the laptop over, remove the strip that is just above the keyboard but becareful because a cable might be attached to it. Then remove the screwsthat hold the keyboard in place that are under where the strip was and gentlylift the keyboard out because there is definitely a cable under it.

Next you can remove the screws from the lcd hinges at the corners and lift thelcd screen off, also note that you will have to pull the antennas cable and thelcd cable when you remove the lcd.

Next start removing any screws that hold the palmrest in place. Take note ofany cables that are attached to the palmrest and remove them then lift thepalmrest off.

Next start removing any screws you see that hold the motherboard to the bottomcase, then lift the motherboard out an start replacing the fan.

A digital camera to take pictures will be most helpful to refresh you memory ofwhere things were.

I am in need of a repair manual for a Toshiba Satellite L455-S5975 laptop in order to replace the LCD screen. I have searched everywhere, but no luck. Does anyone have a source? Thank you.

Not sure if you will find one... Process on toshibas is:

Pop top cover (sometimes also secured with a few screws on side or bottom of laptop) near monitor base above keyboard to access LCD cable and mount screws
Unplug cable and remove monitor mounting screws (Under plate, on back where cables plugin, and sometimes on bottom)
Take monitor (on flat surface) and remove screw covers with needle so you can put them back on later.
Remove all screws
Use plastic credit card and run around outside lip of screen case until removed
Remove LCD mounting screws
Remove LCD and inverter
Remove LCD brackets and inverter from panel
Replace panel and start working backwords.

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro 6000. The wireless LAN was working ok till some snow got onto the back of the pc. The PC boots up ok but cannot find any wireless network. The Wireless led on the front panel...

The internal wireless cards of these laptops are underneath the keyboard (remove the plastic strip above the keyboard, then 2 screws holding down the keyboard, then remove the Torx security screw holding the WiFi cover). See if the snow job might have gotten to it and perhaps corroded it? The stock WiFi card is an Agere MPC-13a/20 (MPC-13a/20R) model - widely available on eBay for $10 or less.

If it's too troublesome, a wireless card that plugs into your PC card slot is probably the cheapest solution.

The Wireless Antenna On-Off switch is on the Right side. The Wireless Antenna LED is to the left of the On-Off switch. It glows when the wireless antenna is in use.

It has to have an > optional
Turn the laptop over, Front facing you.
The Battery Compartment is on the Front Right corner.
The Wi-Fi Compartment Cover is on the Back Left corner.

Remove the single screw in the right middle of the cover. (Philips head)
See if a Wi-Fi PCI Mini Card is installed.

No?
You'll have to obtain a Wi-Fi PCI Mini Card for your Toshiba.
