My husband was ready to throw this game out the window instead of returning it because he was so upset...so nice for our 10 year-old on Christmas morning. Researched online and lots of people said putting two older batteries into the board with two of the new ones. We did that and also had to move the couch into the hall and then it finally calibrated!! Don't give up keep trying everything but the two older batteries helped. Once it was calibrated we moved the couch back and it seems to work fine. So far it seems like a cool game!
Took me one hour and no large metal objects nearby. We also covered up windows so it wasn't so bright in room. Be patient as it really puts your patience to the test. We kept moving it around a few inches here and a few there and finally it worked. Frustrating yes but worth it.
I bought this game over a year and a half ago for my kids and finally decided to try it. I had problems for 2 days trying to calibrate the board. What finally worked was putting in two new and two used batteries, giving the board a 6 ft radius (instructions recommend 4 ft), and propping the board up on about 4 ft of storage bins in front of the tv. The lighting of the room was pretty dim. I still cannot believe it worked. It's pretty fun once everything is calibrated. I dread the day I need to change batteries because I'll have to calibrate all over again.
