Try installing the latest audio driver.
The same model ThinkPadcan have different types of network, video and audio drivers and unless youknow exactly which one is installed in your ThinkPad, you need to download allthe drivers and install each driver until you find the right driver.
When you download thedrivers, write down the device driver and it's file name so you have a recordof which driver you are installing and which directory the unzipped files arelocated on your hard drive.
Go to the IBM/Lenovo WEBsite - support/download page and download the latest Windows device drivers foryour model computer, Use this link: -
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/product.do?template=%2Fproductselection%2Flandingpages%2FbrowseByProductLandingPage.vm&sitestyle=lenovo&brandind=10&validate=true
One you are there, choose Laptop and Netbooks, Thinkpad T-Series laptops, Thinkpad T30, 2366, then choose the model (or just all model), then choose your OS (Windows 7 starter? home? ultimate?)
Once done you can choose your audio driver and download/install it.
After checking the obvious (volume control mute not checked, volume slider not all the way down, and volume button on keyboard is not pressed to mute) -
Go into Control Panel, system, hardware tab, device manager, Sound and Video Game controllers, and delete the sound card. Reboot your system. Windows will find the sound card and re-install it.

T30- no sound altho SOUND MAX drivers installed...
Try Control Panel, Sounds, Sounds (tab), choose a sound toward bottom of list. press the BLACK PLAY ARROW...if BLACK SQUARE appears at the arrow, your sound is installed $\& probably OK...
NOW,,,insert a musiv CD. then press the VOLUME BUTTON, (2nd one over from the THINKPAD button, & you should get sound aplenty !!
Assuming it's nothing obvious like the sound is muted or the volume control slider is all the way down, my guess is you don't have the sound card driver installed. The T30 uses an Intel 82801 ac'97 audio controller. You'll find what you need at the levno website under support. Use your machine model-type number and it wil be in the list. you can get the list smaller by selecting xp as your operating system.
You should check in my computer and see if your audio or sound is showing.
If it is and there are is an ! OR ? then update driver.
If it shows and there are no markings beside it then I would uninstall and restart my computer if it does'nt automatically start the download then go into control panel add and remove try to install from there.
If that does'nt work I HAVE ANOTHER SOLUTION TO TRY.
