Hi,

Welcome to FixYa.

The dishwasher must be connected to an adequate hot water supply.

Adequate meaning a good strong rate of flow and pressure of hot water.

That should answer your question. Thank you for choosing FixYa.

Good luck.

Regards,

Macmarkus :)

    Hello again,

Sorry for the delay in my reply....I was driving to a service call.

Although the unit does incorporate a heating element for heating the water during wash and rinse, it is because even with a hot water supply the detergent`s require a much higher temp to activate the enzymes and other cleaning agents the machine may employ.

The issue with connecting to a cold water supply is the Bosch machine typically will heat water at a rate of 2°C per minute, if your water is only 50 -60 entering, it is going to take hours to complete a cycle.

That being said, cold water will also result in very poor pre-washing and the main wash will therefore suffer. So you can connect ot cold, it just isn`t recommended by the manufacturer...as it states in the installation guide.

Hope that help`s you understand better why the hot water hook-up is important and why the unit has the heating element. It is there to increase the water temp. not for drying. The drying is generally done via the ambient heat already provided by the wash cycle.

    Good luck going forward.

    Macmarkus :)

Do you know if it's a hot or cold feed at inlet

Hi Charles
The traditional method of supply was using hot water for filling. However, it is possible to save money on some machines by hooking up to cold water as the element in the dishwasher uses less power than your water heater. Unfortunately, some manufacturers still require using hot water for filling. You'll need to check your manual to see if this is the case. Here's a link to This Old House explaining dishwasher installation.
Hope this helps

Does a bosch dishwasher sps53e have cold water feed only

Most dishwasher should be hooked up to a hot water line. They do recommend that you run hot water in your sink before you start running your dishwasher.

Does my Bosch SHU43C06UC/17 dishwasher have a hot water element in it? Our kitchen tap water does not get very hot, and before I hook up the dishwasher I want to make sure it will have water hot enough to...

Hi.
Your dishwasher should never be connected to a hot water tap.
Every dishwasher has its own Heating element. If you connect it to a hot water tap you may eventually damage the inlet valve which has sensitive plastic components in it and may even void your warranty if your installation manual suggests Cold water connection only.

Just got a new Bosch dishwasher (forget which model). After the dishwashing cycle has ended (even long after), the dishwasher and dishes are still wet. Was this an installation problem? Thanks

Hi -
I can't see how any installation problem would cause this - if the dishes are still wet at the end of the cycle, you'll probably find the water isn't heating during the wash cycle. The dishwasher uses steam to heat the washing compartment and dry the dishes. It would appear that the dishwasher isn't heating water internally.
Even if the washer was accidentally connected to the cold water supply ** (see note), this shouldn't happen as regardless of the water supply temperature, the washer should still heat the water to the correct temperature internally.
** UK dishwashers should be connected to the cold water supply. For US installations, dishwashers are commonly connected to the hot water supply. For other locations, please consult your installation instructions.
I suggest you start a regular wash cycle and leave it to run for 10-15 minutes. Then open the door and test the temperature of the water in the base of the washer by hand. The water should be hot and there should be steam present in the washer when you open the door.
If the water is cold or only warm, the water isn't being heated internally or isn't heating to the correct temperature, in which case you should contact the retailer or Bosch Service immediately for a replacement. Do not accept an offer of repair on a brand new washer!
Additionally, do not attempt to repair the dishwasher yourself when under warrantly as this will invalidate the warranty.
Hope this helps. If you need further assistance, please let me know your location and the model number of the washer. This should be laser-etched into the top of the door if you can't find it on any of your paperwork.
Regards, BElectric

Re dishwasher unit / sgs46m78au. water pipe/hose/ connections

The water connection is the smaller of the two and generally near the front of the machine, usually a threaded fitting on a electric solenoid will need a pipe to compression 90 fitting if its not already installed, it needs to be hooked to the hot water and that can be found on the left side going up to the sink faucet to be sure run some hot water and the side that gets warm is the correct one, you will need to turn off the water and install a T to connect the dishwasher if an unused shut off is not already there for the dishwasher. The drain line takes a hose and clamp and will hook into your drain iether through a dishwaser t or the disposal if you have one has a connection for it.
