Turned on my VGC LS30E and get the message "operating system not present". I can get to bios but not sure what to do. I have the system recovery DVD's but when I follow the directions (put in disk, turn off computer, wait 30 secs, turn back on) the computer runs the disk and just reboots over and over again..help please!

You need to boot from them to launch the recovery process. The key to press to select boot device is in the first screen that appears. Press it, select the cd/dvd unit and follow the instructions on the screen.

Can you upgrade to a faster cpu than a 1.73ghz in a vgc-ls30e? If so how much can it be upgraded?

Hi, laptop chip upgrades are limited by what the bios setup of your computer will accept but I`ve had a bit of success by looking what different versions of the same model laptop are available, the manufacturers generally use the same motherboard in a variety to keep costs down so if there is a model the same as yours that is available with say a pentium 1.86 dual core then it will most likely fit yours too. Download a program called cpu-z (free on the internet) which will tell you what socket type your cpu is which is essential as there are so many now!

Hope this helps

Motherboard upgrade - Sony Vaio VGC-RB62G - RAID 0 issue

Why don't you try to get your main drive running before getting into Raid Configurations. Set your single drive to Master and run setup telling it you have one drive. Once you are satisfied that it is not some other fluky error, put in the other drive and I believe if SATA you don't even have to worry about Master Slave. Go about your boot and go into setup again. Hopefully all is good with the world and all that has to be done is fix up BIOS. No matter what, there is never an " out of the box " clean system. Make sure you plug your cables in correctly. I assume you're running EIDE. You'll get it.

My hard drive just crashed on my Sony Vaio VGC-LS30e so I replaced the hard drive with a WD SATA HD and the computer is not recognizing it, neither is BIOS. Any suggestions? I went to put the old HD in as...

A bit of research revealed that the system came with a 250GB SATA drive, and the BIOS should have recognized either drive. Check the cable from the Hard Drive to the Mother Board if possible, including the Power connectors.
