I have a model WT-42313. The convergence of the red is off to the right if you are looking at the screen. I have tried to use the advance settings, but the red will not shift left. Is there any thing else I can do, or do i need to have a tech look at it?

You have to replace the stk 392-250's(convergence ic's) and possibly a resistor or two. We've fixed several of these. It will probably cost between $250.00 - $350.00 from most repair shops to fix.

Mitsubishi convergence issue

First is consider what the issue is: nothing moves convergence wise or only one color etc.

Also follow if needed the voltages from the pico fuses involved---one will be a negative voltage and the other a positive one--follow them from the diodes for each voltage to the chips---"Got Voltages?"

I have replaced the convergence chips. the red is smaller than the rest of the grid and out of range of adjustment solder connections good was doing same thing before i replaced the chips the resistors...

Both STK convergence chips are replaced.Resistors are look good and good solders connections dosen't mean anythings.Resistors must test it with a Ohm meter and replaced those resistors are not in torleraces of it colors bands. That why ur tv convergence picture problems are not solved.

TV HAS HAD RED SHADOWS AROUND THE BOTTOM OF THE SCREEN FOR A FEW WEEKS, THEN IT SHUT OFF ONE DAY ABOUT 20 SECONDS AFTER BEING TURNED ON

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projeciton sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • May have shadows
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you are handy and can follow directions. You can get complete repair kits from TvRepairKits.com or click here. They have put together DIY repair kits that include the OEM parts and step by step photo instructions for each repair. If you are not handy or can't follow directions we would suggest calling a shop.

I get a red band on the left side, and there is a red shadow on the figures on the screen... looks like a 3D film with out the 3D glasses!

If it is Mitsubishi WT-42313 IT USES two of the STK-394-250 CONVERGENCE chips.

If 3d both will need to be replaced and the set adjusted. Sometimes there will also be a bad resistor around them that gets taken out--easy to find.

You can buy a pair of the chips on Ebay for less than 20 dollars--total parts cost should be under 30 dollars.

If you cannot do the repair yourself--shop around your area---most shops are going to charge 300 or more for this repair.

This is a very common problem on projection sets--the heat gets one of the chips after 5-8 years and it fails.

Mitsubishi WT-42313 TV

I found the schematic (downloadable PDF) for $7.99 at http://www.completeservicemanuals.com. Cheapest I found and highly recommended.
The blown fuse was due to a fried convergence IC. There are two of these on the high voltage board; they should be replaced together as a matched set. The bad one had gotten so hot I only had to unsolder three pins -- the rest were already loose!
I found the ICs at http://www.electronic-repair-kits.com, also highly recommended. The correct part for the WT-42313 is STK394-250. Make sure you order a pair and they will send you a matched set.
My set is now operating; I just need to clean the optics and do a convergence alignment.
