VS 60719 Projection TV screen flicker

Hello,

I just got a Mitsubishi 60719 60 in projection TV and after a few days of use it has a pivture issue. After being on for a few hours, the picture started to warp and flicker. Basically, the picture starts to shrink towards the center of the screen and the screen shakes a little. I thought I smelt something burning in the back but I opened up the back and cant see anything discolored.

My thoughts are either a lose connection or a bad capacitor. Even though the screen flickers the colors seem to be lined up perfectly, it as if all of the lamps are receiving surges at once.

Any thoughts on this would be great, thanks.
-Greg

check for cold solder joints on the yoke connector located behind the speaker grill and mounted on the crts. You may also want to check for cold solder on the vertical output i.c.

WE HAVE A MITSUBISHI VS-60719, AND THE PICTURE LOOKS LIKE 3D AND WARPED, DO YOU KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS AND IS IT FIXABLE

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some images of convergence problems.

Mitsubishi vs 60719 - Wavy bow in picture

Either a bad solder connection on your convergence module or a bad convergence IC. Repair costs will probably be in the $350-$500 range.
