  • Anonymous Jul 04, 2010

Is the noise while turning when driving or can you create the noise just sitting and turning the wheel?

Usually the CV Joint pops when worn making turns so check that out. The bad one will pop when only putting a load on it. Here an example, say the left side is bad and you make a right turn. It will not make the popping noise only unless both sides are bad

Could be hitting the shield or out of alignment or any number of suspension components or CV boot going. Bring it into someplace that does free suspension inspections. Tires Plus used to do them around here. Google it if you need to.

1998 Dodge Stratus rubbing noise when turning. Sounds like rubber against metal. No popping noise.

It could be several things ....
Wheel bearings - jack the front driver side up. First ... just rotate the wheel ... you should hear NOTHING. Any noise menas there is probably a wheel bearing/hub issue. Now take hold of the tire in the 9am and 3pm positions. Try to push/pull from side to side ... if there is any "play" in the wheel the bearings are going.
Brake line interference - a lot of brake lines have a plastic sheath in the wheel well area ... check to see that the line/plastic sheath shows no wear when you have the wheel off...that might cause the issue.
Steering linkage - even though the upper control arms were recently replaced look at all the ball joints and grab hold of them and see if there is any play/movement.
Repeat on the passenger side..
Good luck on your troubleshooting

My Dodge Grand Caravan is making a humming noise as you accelerate, while turning left it stops but gets worse while turning right. I replaced the left front wheel hub and no improvement, I need help

if hub bearing replacement did not fix the noise

when noises are on left and right turns
that has CV joints /drive shafts
would say they are the issue
replace both sides

and replace the left hand hub bearing at the same time

Why is my 1994 mercury sable making a clicking noise when I step on the gas

the clicking noise? is it a pop and crack while turning the steering wheel from left to right while the vehicles moving?if so,you may have a bad cv joint in one of your axles.depending on which side its coming from, tells you which cv joint is bad.drivers side front?pop and crack? it's bad.passengers side, pop and crack while turning the steering wheel left to right? bad cv joint. in this case, you will need an axle replacement on the side where the pop and cracks coming from. thank you for choosing fixya.com and if this does not assist you, please feel free to repost your questions to fixya.com!

It starts In 3rd and when in 5th while still accelerating, a noise which sounds like it's coming from drivers front side, the best I can describe it is it sound like a commercial paint shaker shaking a...

Noises from axles can be really deceiving. The sound is transfered throuh the transaxle and can resonate through the entire vehicle. The turning to the left thing makes it sound like a problem in the right wheel/axle area. Wheel bearings and axles tend to make worse noise when they are on the OUTSIDE of the turn. More of the vehicle weight is shifted to the outside due to centrifugal force. Thus, if the noise is louder when turning left, this puts the right axle to the outside of the turn and the most likely to be the source of the noise. (and vise-versa) The fact that the noise calms down while cruising makes me believe that it is not a wheel bearing. Wheel bearings can make more noise in turns, however, they usually make a "roaring" or loud "humming" noise that gets louder with speed. An axle is more likely to change or get louder according to engine load more than rotational speed. (Way worse while accelerating or climbing a hill) I would be taking a hard look at the right axle.

Turn left andaccellarate only then howelling noise

will try to help. you may have bad passenger axle. pop and crack anytime on left turn only? or just howling? bad cv joint on passenger side. look under front of car while safely in park. look on inside of each wheel, see the rubber boots? there will be two on each side, drivers and passengers side, see any grease leaking around those rubber boots? if so, then that may be where your problem is. thank you for choosing fixya.com

My father had this problem on a car years ago and I have see others have it also . The poping noise is often for a ball joint and then the wheel just falls off. Have the ball joints inspected for excessive wear
