There is a panel on the bottom of the computer that has one or two screws. take the panel off and you can remove the existing memory and replace it with the upgrade --- PC2700 memory. If this helped you, please rate me. Thank you

I purchased chip but the didn't load

You mean you installed an SD memory? Did you check memory upgrade limit? i.e.: If maximum upgrade is 8 Gb, it won't recognize a 16 Gb SD memory.
If specification is correct, you should chek SD memory in your computer with a USB memory reader. If computer won't reconize it, means memory is bad and you should claim warranty returrn or change where you bought it

How much memory can you install onto a macbook I would like to upgrade to 1TB

Memory or hard drive, they are two VERY different things. Memory is used to store running programs only while the computer is on - is super fast - and gets erased when the computer shuts off because it requires electricity to maintain a state. A hard drive stores information long term.

That being said, memory can be upgraded to whatever the mother board supports, usually 8gb max these days (Good luck finding the memory chips to fit in there though). Most people will get two 2gb chips - as most motherboards have only two slots for memory. Some have more. You will need the correct speed of chips however that your motherboard supports. you can't use 10 year old chips in a modern computer, they aren't the same design.

The hard drive can be upgraded to 1tb, and more, and you can buy external hd's for more convenience.

Can I add 1GB memory chip in 2nd slot with a 512MB chip in 1st?

You can upgrade by inserting a 1GB PC2100 DDR SDRAM DIMM. I would put the 1MB in the first slot and move the 512MB chip to the second slot.
The 1GB should cost around $40.

when handling memory make sure you are grounded before touching any memory chips.
try getting another set of 256mb chips and grounding yourself before installing them.

IBM thinkpad g40..i want to upgrade

To upgrade your CD drive there is a screw on the bottom of the machine that holds it in place. Remove this screw and the drive will slide out. I buy most drives for my customers and shop from Ebay. I've found that there are some very good vendors with good prices and warranties there. Now for the memory. The memory you need for your machine is PC2100, and 1g is the max. I mainly use Kingston or Infiniton. Both of these are good chips, and there are other good chips out there. I suggest that you use two 512mb chips that are the same make. I've found that sometimes two different chips will create a conflict with each other. The memory is located under a panel on the bottom of the machine. For memory I use pricewatch.com If you have any other questions please fell free to ask.

Memory upgrade

hi there, if is still hardware warranty, don't touch it. use your warranty. better to repalce unit with warranty. Beeping sound means memory problem. The problem is in the slot of the memory chips of the board. If the warranty laft, try to clean the slot of the memory chips to the board and the contact of memory chips. It will work seem you were using it before you upgrade the memory. TY
