I need to transfer data from an old and sickly Dell Insiron 8100 to a new 2010 external hard drive....no conforming ports....pls advise what I need to purchase...cable?....for transfer ...and either...

The first thing I would do is pull the hard drive from the sick Inspiron. Now get yourself an IDE/SATA to USB adapter from a computer retailer or on Ebay, they cost about 20 bucks. Attach the HDD from the Inspiron to the adapter and attach the usb side of the cable to a good computer. The computer will now read this drive as an external and allow to access any and all files. Just make sure that before you remove the HDD from the Inspiron, you remove any passwords on the computer that might limit your access to files. Also on the good computer go to control panel > Folder Options. Click on the boxes to allow viewing of system files etc. just for a little while, during the files copy. Make a folder on your desktop and name it whatever you want. Now go through the HDD from the Inspiron and copy any and all files to that folder. When you have finished, attach your new external. Now just copy the files from the folder on the desktop to the new external drive and there you go. These adapters are the only true way to be able to pull this off. Good luck

I was given a blackberry pearl 8100 and am trying to import my pictures from my device. i was able to from my media card, but not from the device. how can i get these pics off my phone and onto my...

Hi,
Most of the mobiles will prompt the user to select the mode of connection when connected to computer such as "Mass storage mode/data transfer mode" and "PC suite/modem mode". If you select the "Mass storage mode/data transfer mode", then only your mobile phone's memory card is connected to your system just like pen drive. so only the pictures present in momory card can be accessed. For transfering pictures from phone memory, try the following methods,
1. Go to your file manager in mobile phone, move the pictures from your phone memory to memory card.
2. Install proper PC suite for your mobile, connect to system in phone mode/modem mode/pc suite mode. Then using the PC suite file manager in your system, oyu can access files stored on to phone memory as well as memory card.
3. Connect a bluetooth dongle to your system, establish a bluetooth connection to your mobile. Threw bluetooth file manager from your system, you can browse the phone memory of your phone.
I hope any of the above tips may solve your problem.

Take the memorycard out of the phone and,

Optiplex GX240 no high speed internet

Use an USB pen-drive or even a floppy disk because the drivers can fit in 1 MB.
