I can make a phone call and the display says "connected" I can't hear the person or talk to the person unless I switch to speaker phone. When I switch off of speaker, again Nothing.
Replace the flip assembly, the ear receiver is dead and thats why you cant hear, replace the flip and you'll be fine, its not expensive and this is a common issue with motorola flip phones.

I heard that some of the older i776 phones had trouble with the software and they were being replaced under warranty. The one I have is from one of the later groups and I've had no problems with it whatsoever. I did hear that the older ones suffered from lockup quite a lot. But I'm not sure about your microphone situation. Don't remember that one.
Its a common ailment of the 776. They have display issues, charger issues, speaker issues, and the camera is horrible. Motorola is planning a recall/buy back, with gift cards to purchase another phone.
In this case check the volume of you're Handheld, If it is low, Increase the volume and check still if it is not working you need to walk into the service center to check the speaker of you're Handheld.
