Light engine problem?

The problem I am having now is, periodically, when the tv is turned on, a buzzing/crackling type of sound comes from the back of the tv and the lamp will fail to light up. Sound will be fine and the tv will shut down after a minute of no picture. Sometimes when the lamp fails to come on after the buzz, hitting the on button again will bring on the picture (no buzz). This is completely random. I have looked behind the tv when the buzz sound is present and I can see a light (not a spark but flickers with the buzz) from inside the vents up and to the right of where the lamp housing is. Thanks for your help, let me know if you have any other questions

I ran the error code according to the service manual instructions and it came back with "34" "lamp abnormality". I know the "lamp" is good. Will this code cover a ballast problem also?
    Thanks for your help.

I found the actual part that is "lighting up/glowing" and making the buzzing/crackling sound. The photo is of the circuit board in the ballast assembly and the circled part is the culprit. Is this a resistor? Any help on identifying the part and where I might find a replacement part would be appreciated.
    Thanks!!!

If your looking through the vent at the backside of your lamp cartridge if the sparks are coming from the right side thats where your ballast circuitry is on that small circuit board the wires may not be properly connected or you may need a new ballast let me know if I can help you any further but before you go any further since its a hard chassis to get apart you may want to consider getting a service manual if you do just post me a model number and I can supply a link for you and they also give free online tech support with the manuals

First of all, sorry for the mix up on model the model #. I was viewing a problem regarding LG LCD TVs and found your link. My problem is with an LG 42LGX LCD HDTV. It has worked fine without any issues...

Hi,

welcome to fixya and thank you choosing my service..

OK,that is the most and common problem of all LCD TV...

Usually dim and totally have no back-light is cause of bad inverter board. One of the inverter board is shorted that cause dim light and crackling sounds..

This are the sample images of inverter board.
1_22_2012_1_29_43_am.jpg

to make sure that the problem is on the inverter board kindly try to disconnect/unplug it from your TV and power ON then observe if the crackling sounds remain or not..If the crackling sounds gone replaced the inverter board..Also I need to how many inverter board you have? if 2 or more disconnect it one by one to determine if where is the specific faulty inverter board..

Example:
I disconnect #1 inverter still have crackling sounds..next disconnect #2 inverter and reconnect the #1 inverter until you found the faulty one..Note when you doing this make it sure you power off the TV before you unplug or disconnect inverter board because its high voltage..

I need the picture your TV screen..just send it to [email protected]

Regards.

Humming sound

Samsung states - A buzzing sound from your plasma TV is normal. It is caused by the electrical charges used to create the images on the screen. The buzzing, however, should not be so loud that you can hear it when the volume on the TV is set at normal levels. It is also important to determine the type of buzzing sound. A sound like a ground hum is completely normal. This buzzing can originate near the power cord connection or from the SMPS board position on the upper back of the TV. The buzz will be more audible as contrast increases on the screen, most notably when displaying an all white screen. If the buzzing sound is loud, you may have the Contrast set too high. Lower the contrast to reduce or eliminate the buzzing. You may also have loud buzzing if the rear of your Plasma TV is too close to a wall or other hard surface. Try moving your TV away from the wall until the buzzing is minimized. [1]
If the buzzing is at a higher frequency and resembles a crackling sound (like the sound of Velcro being pulled apart), and originates from the upper middle back of the TV, you likely have a failing SMPS board. Place a support call with Samsung to have the SMPS board replaced.FP-T5084 Have a known buzzing problem with a very simple fix.If the buzzing is coming from the left or right sides of the rear and the volume can be changed by pressing lightly on those locations, you are probably hearing the vibration of the grounding springs on the back panel. Call Samsung (or whoever) and have a technician confirm the problem. The easiest fix is to insulate the offending spring by applying some felt tape.

Hi. I have a 2004 52' Flat screen projection TV. For the past couple months, we have turned on our TV and all we hear is sound, but no picture comes up. We thought the bulb was having problems. We ordered...

The buzzing is the ballast arc gap, normal sound. When the tv starts does the lamp start to come on. Can you see any light from the back? Sounds like bad ballast. Unfortunatly this part is no longer available. the light engine will have to be removed and sent to Toshiba to be rebuilt.

Sony wega kdf-50we655 went off and thier is a buzzing noise

Anything that sounds like electrical crackling will be coming from either the lamp or lamp driver/ballast boards or their interconnections. The lamp should be examined first as this is the most likely cause.

Tv won't turn on red lights blinking

You are hearing the spark gap mounted on the lamp ballast board. If you can hear that sound, that means everything in the lamp driver circuit is working except the lamp!

Get a new lamp.
