SOURCE: NEC Plasma Sync 42MP3 Problem

Hi, This model has some design flaws and yes NEC admitted to them a year ago. The problem with your monitor (hopefully) is a bad power supply. Have a Tech with a voltage tool check the boards as well as the connections Reason, this monitor generates a lot of heat ( no cooling fans) primarily at the power supply and sits there. So the wires tend to go weak by the heat build up. What the problem is the power is not going to the correct board in the right voltage. hope this helps out!!!

SOURCE: NEC PX-42VM3A 42" Power problem

I have read that this has been fixed with little more than a hard reset. This means just unplug your set for 10 minutes or so and let all the power seep out of the boards and capacitors, then plug it back it.

If that didn't fix it, your unit needs servicing. If you are handy here are some troubleshooting steps:

Check the fuse at Y-Sustainer pcb.
If blown do not replace. Look instead at scan converter boards. They are connected between y-sus & plugs from display (left side with face down, back open). Look for signs of 'burning' at upper and lower long boards. If any imperfections are found, replace all three boards: Y-sus, up & low scan.
If fuse was okay, check power supply for bloated capacitors (big board in middle of set).

I hope that helps.

SOURCE: where is the ysus board located on a nec plasma

The board is located on the extreme-right at the center of the chassis. In some sets I have seen the Y-sus on the left and the Z-sus on the right. If you can get me the part number off the board I can confirm if that is the board

61mp1 nec plasma keeps shutting down after 5 minutes, when switch on picture ok

Fault to the main power supply regulator section. Either it will be a separate board, or the part of main board. Check and replace damaged component/s at its main power regulator [SMPS] section circuit. Contact any service technician. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts.

It will be best to replace the power supply regulator board as card basis rather than making "Surgery" to it; which usually will make loss for both money and time. Even though you can make it right, it will cost around an amount equal to the cost of a new board; including the cost of (spare parts + service charge) More to say, most of the spare parts to it will be difficult to get from open electronic spare part market. This is true to most of the flat panel TV power supply boards; irrespective of its brand and screen size.

NEC plasmaSync 61mp1 problems

Here is the link for the user manual if you need it; http://www.necdisplay.com/Documents/UserManuals/PX-61XM1A_MAN_2ed.pdf Check page 54 of the manual (61 of the pdf) right at the bottom. The lights you have indicate that either the power supply citcuit, the screen, or one or more fans have been damaged. If you are sure all the fans work, then the power supply is the only repairable posssibility. replacing the screen is not worth it. The fact that the fuse blew but doesn't blow again makes me suspect one of the transformers or capacitors in the power supply has blown, causing the short that blew the fuse, but also then melted the short so it no longer blows the fuse. If you have a multimeter, and ideally an ESR meter, with a good photo of the power supply unit we can hopefully talk you through what to check - otherwise get a repair shop to look at the power supply. Hope this helps :)

NEC PX 42XM1A won't power on

Any chance you might think that it is your remote control faulty? As you need it to turn your plasma on from standby via remote (only). Let me know.

NEC Plasmasync 61mp1 - won't turn on

Its the power supply board. If you cant get the whole board, check your transistors theyre most likely FSXXX-X (part #). Replacing them should solve the problem. And they're only about a dollar each so youll save a bunch too but it requires a little more work.

61MP1 turns off after 5-10 minutes

Ryan

I have a 61MP1 that wont turn on. I get the green flashing light to signal power but nothing happens with the plasma. You seem to know a fair bit. A guy in UK said he'd supply a new power board for $500 but wants my old one in return. Sounds like it might be something I can fix here. Any suggestions. Barry

Just a half picture on the screen

1. Remove the rear cover 2. remove the perforated large shield on the main board housing (almost in center). 3. Unplug the right top fan and temp sensor plugs ( two small plugs at the top of the main board). 4. Remove screwsthat secure the main board housing, there is also four screws by the video inputs. Do not unplug the board, just gently pull it away 6 to 8 inches. 5. Remove the cover with the Top fan attached (more screws). 6. Now the scan board for the top half of the screen is exposed. The board has four large heat sinks with two large Electrolytic aluminum caps next to each heat sink. 7. The problem caps are at the very top right side of the scan board C192 Nichicon 220 uf next to the IC, the other cap is C120 100UF on the lower side of the IC next to a heat sink. I replaced them without taking the board out. C192 is the one that failed, the other one tested OK but I replaced both.
I got the caps from Mouser.com they are 69 cents each, the Mouser part number for the 220Uf is: 647-UUD1C221MCL1GS (Nichicon 220uFm 16V 6.3x7.7 mm surface mount); the 100uF is:647-UUD1E101MCL (Nichicon 100uF 25V 6.3x7.7mm), both are 105 degree C. I bought two extra spares in case I need them for the future.
Reassemble the unit in the reverse order and you are done. Note if you test it without closing everything, make sure you have the main board shield back on, otherwise the screen will bleed due to the noise from the board. good luck! mine has been working fine.. just like new..

NEC PLASMA SYNC 42MP2 STANDY BY MODE?

According to the manual for "POWER/STANDBY indicator is blinking in red":
  • "The temperature inside the main unit has become too high and has activated the protector."
  • "Promptly switch off the power of the main unit ans wait until the internal temperature drops."
  • "If the monitor becomes too hot, the overheat protector will be activated and the monitor will be turned off. If this happens, turn off the power to the monitor and unplug the power cord. If the room where the monitor is installed is particularly hot, move the monitor to a cooler location and wait for the monitor to cool for 60 minutes."

Same problem here. PX-42VM2A (NEC PlasmaSync 42MP2) Turns on (status light green) then goes to standby mode (status light red) after what sounds like some electrical relays clicking over. Opened it up and no glaringly obvious problem, but i'm no components technician so... Any ideas? Anyone want to buy it for parts or need a specific part? email me: 318noire<at>gmail<dot>com
