If the power supply has the 6 pin connector to plug into the video card, you should have no problem using this card with your current setup..
i currently use a GeForce 9800GTX+ with about the same pc as you have using a 600w power supply and no issues what so ever, generally the video card power supply requirements will be stated on the side, but i'm pretty but it requires a 450w or 500w, so you should be fine.

I am using IBM R51-2887-NQ8. #1 what should be the specs of RAM that i would be able to use for upgrade. atleast to the region of 1 - 2 G #2 till what capacity can i upgrade the HDD #3 and the processor

Max memory is 2GB
The largest factory spec'd drive was 80GB.
The max spec'd processor was the Pentium M 1.8/400 FSB Dothan core. In theory you could use the chip out of the T42p, since they were both 400mhz FSB, but the BIOS may not recognize it.

These are the factory specs of the R51

This motherboard has 1 PCI Express x16 slot for a graphics card.

You could use:
Geforce 6 series (6800GT)

Geforce 7 series (GeForce 7950, GeForce 7900, GeForce 7800, GeForce 7600 ,
GeForce 7300, GeForce 7200 and GeForce 7100)

Computer saying error loading operating system

You can configure your boot setup from your bios screen (for dell, either F11 or F12) then set up your optical drive as your 1st priority then, save settings. After that, you need to insert your windows XP cd in order for it to boot.

inform me of what happened after you have done this.

Question about upgrading...

Hi,

Honestly In the long run you will be better off buying a cheap new laptop.

Dual core or similiar.

But lets see.
You can upgrade the cpu, memory and the hard drive.

The laptop supports Maximum of 72 MB of Ram by installing a matched pair of 32-mb memory modules in the memory upgrade sockets on the main board. Theres 8 MB build into the motherboard so you will have total of 72MB with 8MB on the board and 64 in the slots. Thats the maximum memory you can have. You could try a biger module at your own risk. (may not work)

the NeoMagic 2093 video controller is integrated and can't be changed.

What is the model of your LM? for example Lm M166ST
You should be able to upgrade to 166MHZ or more.

I don't know how big of a drive the computer supports, but Id guess atleast double? possibly more, I don't know whats the bigest size supported.
