My enV won't hold a charge

Back in August my lg enV phone received water damage. It started to work again in November. I bought it a new battery but it won't hold a charge anymore. Can you help?

  • Anonymous Jun 10, 2008

Hi. My family has two Env 9900 phones bought at the same time. My husband's phone, however, won't hold a charge. It's not the battery because I switched the phone batteries and my phone is holding the charge. After a day with my phone's battery, however, his phone indicated that the battery needed charging again. The only difference I can see is that I got the software upgraded on my phone and not his. Could this be the issue?

I have the same problem with my enV. I thought it was the battery so I bought a new one and it still won't hold a charge. I don't think it has water damage but I know if I go to get a replacement phone, that's what Verizon will say. They've said that about every phone my family has had it seems like.

You said the new battery worked but wont charge in the phone. You had water damage to the phone before getting the new battery correct?

First remove any Mini S/D card in the phone, power it off and remove the battery. ( only do this if its out of warranty and nothing else works. ) Your need to take the phone apart and get some alcohol wipes and wipe down the circuit board and connectors and anything that may have had water on it, if you see any crude, try to rub it off, there may be water and crude built up on contacts from the water damage that may be shorting the phone. Also check the battery contacts for greas or crud on the contacts. Once you have wiped down everything the alcohole should evaporate and take any moisture with it. Leave it out for a day dis assembled so it can air dry completely.

Put phone back together and hook up the charger and see if it charges. wait to put the memory card back in as in case you screwed anything up, you dont want it to take out your memory card with it.

I have performed this task with many of my friends cell phone that have gone through washing machines or got moisture in it because they take there phones into a steamy shower and moisture ends up shorting it out.

If nothing else works and you want to try it, go for it.

remember theres 6 screws in back and 4 around the mainscreen that are covered with triangular sticky covers, then use a thin knife or something to pry from one of the corners, one it gets started you just have to pop it apart with your fingers. Everything snaps back together easily.

Be carefull on the side with the screens, you dont wanto to pop apart the front screen from the mainscreen as its a pain to keep together when putting it back, also dont get any dust or fingerprints on the screen as they will drive you nuts if you put it all back together and theres a greasy fingerprint under the plastic that protects the screen.

Good luck

Well,i think it's just that little thing you put the charger in.
not a plug, but i mean inside the phone itself.
mine wouldnt hold a charge, unless i bent the charger really drastically.
i was on vacation, and really needed the phone.
two days later, the charger was broken(snapped in half) and the little thing popped out of the phone.
it's probably loose.
thats happened to me twice with enV's, and once to one of my friends with an enV.

Try connecting it to the computer. The same thing happened with my phone and won't accept any charge in the wall or car but only the computer.

I dropped my phone in the pool, got a new battery for it and it worked fine untill the battery ran out and now it will not charge or turn on (lg xenon)

Since it's a new battery it might be the battery. If a battery will fail it will do so with the first 30 days of use. It sounds like you have never charged it before. You should bring it back to the store for a replacement to test it if possible with another phone. But since the phone suffered water damage the real issue is most probably the phone. If a phone gets wet sometimes it will work fine for a while after it dries or it won't work at all. But even if it does work you could start having random issues with it everything from random shutdowns/reboots, can't charge, can't stay on to issues like preventing you from receiving txt msgs or using the camera or media player. You might have to start shopping around.

EnV touch phone won't turn on. Charged overnight, went to unplug phone and it would not turn on. Screen stayed on charging screen What to do?

Unplug the battery. Leave it for half an hour. Put the battery back in and then try to on it. If it still won't on, try to change the battery to a new one. If it still doesn't work, that means your phone power chip has been damaged.

You can get a universal charger that charges the battery independent of the phone at :

LG enV 2 not turning back on

If possible take it into your cell providers store and ask them to check it. They should be able to do a battery test and a software check for free of charge. If they are no help check the brass contacts on both your battery and phone. They might be making intermittent contact or be corroded. Also check for water damage. There should be a small sticker, if its pink its water damage. It could also be a defective battery, but don't buy one. Try to find someone that has one and borrow it to test. Good Luck

My enV will not charge!

Hey i think i just figured out the problem to all the port charging issues for the envy and envy 2 phones with verizon. its not the phones, its the charger cord! the part that goes into the phone. it gets pulled out over time from pulling the cord out of the phone all the time. get a pair of pliers. grab the end and push the metal end of the cord against somthing hard, push it back in so it is at the appropriate depth. this should make it charge properly again!
