Car 1998 Ford Windstar 4 cyl. stopped after going through water . Drove through two feet of standing water and made it about 200 yards and engine cutoff,,battery is good, could it e water in the distributor?, Coil?
Are all the belts still on?
There is a very good possibility that the Alternator got soaked and killed the engine. The Battery starts the engine; the Alternator runs the engine. If the Alternator dies: the Battery provides power. The soaking most likely shorted out any hope for that.
You need to allow the Alternator to completely dry out. You can use a hair dryer to assist it drying. There is also available compressed air spray cans you can purchase to forcibly blow out any water inside the motor; rotating the pulley/motor (by hand) with the belt off. And yes I'm embarassed to say: 1-person use a lawn blower to force out water in his alternator! It worked!
The Wires and Distributor are most likely wet. Again use a hair dryer to assist in drying off. Is there also water in the Spark Plug - Engine Wells? Use paper towels towels or rags to soak up any water away from the plugs. Or use again compressed air spray cans.
In the meanwhile, disconnect the battery while these are drying out.
