I am having the same problem. In response to the answer posted below, I have a cable connection and am attempting to connect my existing cable modem (which does not have a wireless router) to a 2wire DSL router. Although my laptop finds the connection, I cannot connect to the Internet and keep receiving a "DSL Failed to Connect" error.

How can the 2wire wireless router be configured to work with the cable modem? I have the exact same problem as the others. The internet directly to the computer works fine but when the ethernet cable is plugged into the 2wire it says it can't find the broadband connection.

Its almost impossible to connect a 2wire DSL router with a Cable modem. They dont go hand in hand.
Although you can connect the outgoing ethernet wire from the modem in the last ethernet plug on the back of the router and then have the ethernet connections coming from the router. But not wireless. and if you find a way, contact me at [email protected]

Forget about chaining the att modem to the cable modem. If you want wireless than just go on Craigs List and purchase one router for like 30 bucks and call it a day. Lets put it this way...I JUST got comcast after ATT wireless. I have two pc's in my home but my modem from comcast only has one port for an ethernett cable. It's sadly obvious that I have to throw a router in the loop just to get my other rig online :(

You may need a crossover cable between the router and your laptop.

  • Anonymous Feb 06, 2008

For donc81 - do you have cable internet or DSL? You should only need one or the other. You should have a DSL modem OR a cable modem, but not both.

If it is DSL, which is carried over your existing phone line, you should connect the DSL modem to the phone line with a regular phone cord. After connecting the DSL modem to your phone line, connect your computer to the DSL modem via the Ethernet cable - bypassing the wireless router just to test the Internet connection. Are you able to connect to the Internet? If so, then the problem lies with the configuration of the wireless router, if not, then there's a problem with your DSL connection.

Cable and wireless question

Not possible, since the "input" to the 2WIRE modem is a 4-wire telephone-line, not an 8-wire Ethernet cable.

Instead, spend about $40 to buy a D-Link Wireless G modem, and connect its WAN port to the cable-modem, and connect up to 4 Ethernet cables to "wired" computers, and configure the "wireless" component of the D-Link router.

Use an Ethernet cable to connect the port on the Comcast modem to the WAN port on the Berklin (Belkin????) router.

I have comcast cable net and D-link WBR 1310

Hi, forget about the USB connection since you wanted to use a router for your wireless connection. Contact Comcast asnd make sure they assist you in making your computer connect to the Internet using the ethernet connection because you are going to use the ethernet connection for the modem-router connection. Once your computer is online with the ethernet connection, you can connect your Dlink router to the modem and configure it for Internet connection. There will be more steps before you can use the wireless connection. Just make sure you can get online with ethernet connection first.

Trouble connecting netgear wireless router to rca modem DCM425

First try connection the Yellow ethernet cable from the rca modem to your computer's network connection. If you get a connection this way, then your modem will work with a ethernet cable. If not, then call Comcast for help. The modem ethernet out to computer port must be connected to the wan line of the router. Then you can connect an ethernet cable from your computer network connection to one of the 4 ports of the router. For wireless connections you must set up the router and wireless adaptor with the same settings to connect. Follow the routers directions.

Changing over from a 2wire modem with a basic phone line; running desktop with Ethernet cord, 2 laptops wireless. Can not figure out how to interface into my Linksys G 2.4 Router. Is there such a cord that...

run the telephone line from your modem into the wall jack. From the modem connect a network cable (cat5) into the back ( via the uplink port) of your linksys router . Your router can now route the IP from the modem.

Why does this keep happening??? Please advise...

Your modem is set to only allow one main IP address, which it assigned to your laptop.

Connect the cables through the router, then unplug first the modem, then the router.

Wait 45 seconds, then plug in router, wait 5 seconds, then plug in modem.

Give it a few seconds to talk to everything, and you should be good to go.
