No ethernet with docking station

I have a T43 laptop and when I connect it to a socking station the ethernet does not work and is unable to get a connection. I have tried with several different stations and get the same problem, so im pretty sure its not a faulty station. When plugged directly into the laptop there is no problem but once its hooked to the station I am unable to connect. Everything on the laptop is updated, (drivers etc). Any ideas? Any suggestions and or feedback is greatly appreciated.

Try turning off the computer, removing the laptop from the docking station, rebooting, right clicking on my computer, in the system properties box, go to the hardware tab, delete the docking station profile, turn off and put the laptop back on the docking station, boot up and let it reacquire settings. Sometimes the software connection to the docking station gets corrupted and reacquiring the settings will often do the trick with anything that works on the laptop but not on the docking station.

It could be the connector on the bottom of your laptop that's creating the problem. Does any other ports work on the docking station when docked?

Have you tried a BIOS/firmware upgrade? Also, check in the BIOS or Setup to see how the network adapter(s) are configured. One may be 'cancelling' out the other by taking precedence over the other. It's a long shot, but definitely look into a firmware update.

Will a kensington universal docking station work with my sony vaio pcg-7d2l

Yes it should if you are running Windows XP, Vista, 7 or 8. You just connect to the unit using a spare USB port on your laptop and a plug-plug USB cable. It has it's own power so you'll need a mains socket. This means you can unplug your laptop and leave any devices charging on the docking station USBs. Your laptop should auto-instal the station. I believe there is a table/support available which combines with this unit. There a varying prices for this unit so look around.

In order to use the ethernet card on your Docking Station ( or Port Replicator), you must first disable any internal Ethernet cards.

To do this:
  1. Type "Network Connections" in the Start Menu seach box, and press enter.
  2. Right click on your computer's internal ethernet adapter (i.e. "Local Area Connection" & select "Disable"

The problem is definitely not with your docking station. Its the ethernet controller that is faulty. Possible reasons can be incorrect driver or device failure(not very unusual).
You said that you "have tried to install drivers from Marvell but no luck". This most likely indicates the device(ethernet controller) failure. Anyways try to download the drivers from the link below and give it one more shot.

If it still doesn't work a new ethernet controller card should do the trick. Considering the fact that you can get a good one from brands like D-link, Realtek etc., for about 25$ it shouldn't be much of a problem.

Hope this helps,
Sai.

The ethernet cable port on my docking station is broken.

It is hardly possible that anyone will even try to repair it. And believe it or not, it is cheaper to buy a new one then to repair the old one

Missing Docking Station key

You will have to take the docking station apart until you can see the locking mechanism. Once you can see the mechanism, you should be able to get a screwdriver ron it and release it. Make sure that it releases, don't force it, and most of all, be patient.

Sony vaio r505jl docking station

I googled this and found that both the notebook itself and the docking station have ethernet connections, the docking station ethernet connection seems to be between the usb and monitor connection, The notebook itself has a ethernet connection on the right side of the notebook near the back under a rubber cover. Let me know if that was correct or not.
