Laptop screen stays blank on powerup

My Toshiba 2455-S305 laptop screen remains blank when I power on although it makes the normal startup sounds.

With an external monitor attached, the Windows XP load screen appears for a short while then that screen also goes blank.

I tried the Fn-F5 keys to switch between an external monitor and laptop screen but that has no effect.

You would be well advised to hit F8 and do a safe mode. Then check the disk. More details here: http://annoyances-resolved.blogspot.com/2009/09/laptop-wont-boot-and-shows-blank-screen.html

My Toshiba Satellite 2455 S305 Boots but the screen stays black. I have tried an F8 startup with no results. Does the screen need to be replaced or is there another part that might have failed?

Hi ccavanaugh38...

It could be a faulty screen or inverter causing your problem.
To try and find out which one it is, hook your laptop up to an outside monitor and start the computer, if the picture comes on then the problem is the screen, if if does not come on then it is the inverter in need of replacement.

Ive got a toshiba 2455-s305 laptop that won't turn on. I've tried it using the power cord, with and without the battery, and when I plug it in it start's flashing in the front, but won't turn on.

Remove battery and disconnect power cord. Press power button for about 5-10 seconds (without battery and power cord) Connect power cord only then turn it on.

Hello there:
when you replaced the hard dive did you go into the bios and make sure that the harddrive was recognized and set up as the primary drive.
also you may be able to get around this by pressing the reset buttona on the back of the unit and hold in and turn on the power at the same time
than release after 10 seconds and if this still doesent work try to boot by pressing the f12 key as it starts up ok?

My toshiba 2455-s305 wont boot up

If you are familiar with your laptop, i.e. the locations of hard drive, try to take it out of the its bay and put it back again. Also, if you can have someone check your battery packs, because from my experience with this laptop, when the battery packs is not charging well, i got some booting up problems.

No Sound

It would have to be a new motherboard as the sound will be on board. Obviously you have checked the drivers, but have you run a diagnostic check, you can do this by Start>run> then type 'dxdiag', then press enter. See if windows can locate the problem for you.
