DSC-F717 On/Off switch Jammed

I've had my DCS-F717 for 5 years with no problems - it takes great pictures and I still prefer it to the newer model I bought recently. However, the on/off mechanism is stuck (I think sand/dirt) may have jammed it. Quotes for repairs/cleaning are higher than buying a replacement on e-bay so it's either try and clean it myself or throw it away.
Any advice how to do this or any manuals available for this type of cleaning?

Thanks Mike - this completely worked and my camera works perfectly - thanks so much for the suggestion, it really worked!
    A very appreciative Caroline

Greetings CarolineV

I have the same camera, and bought it about 5 1/2 years ago. Last fall I went to an outing with my family and spilled a small amount of coca-cola on the top of my camera. I immediately whiped it off the top, but some of the liquid got under the on/off switch and almost glued it shut. I asked my brother-in-law (an electrical engineer) what I could use to clean it with and that would not short-out the electronics and he suggested lens cleaner from a quality camera shop (which is all alchol based and therefore not going to short-out the electronics)

After about a week of putting a couple of drops directly under the switch every time I used the camera, it finally stopped sticking and now works perfectly. Not sure what is causing your problem, but you may want to try the same treatment and see if it helps - it won't hurt the camera, etc.

Good Luck!

Mike C.

I have a sony DSC-F717, and when i take pictues, the white colors on the image come out pink and other types the picture has like a green shadow over the picture.

Symptoms shows its start-up of CCD Imager problem in DSC-F717 and in few days, CCD Imager will not give picture data to camera circuit. CCD Imager is part which converts image in electronic signal and that signal / data goes to camera circuit for further process.
Sony will repair CCD Imager problem in DSC-F717 free of cost. Check Sony CCD Imager Support for details.

DSC-F717 won't turn on

You are correct. The battery has lost it`s life.

Contact your nearest Sony dealer and ask them for the NP-F50 battery which I think your camera uses.

The reason why the battery still shows it is charging ( if your interested ) is due to the sensing cct - you will see your battery has three poles and not just 2. The sensing pin is faulty due to the buildt in PCB having a problem. The batteries probably are still ok inside, but the sensing cct does the actual charge control.

Best of luck.
