Nextel Motorola i930 I can't seem to text out of SMS mode only GSm mode. I it possible that I can change that mode within the phone itself?

Initially try for hard reset and do reinstalling of the firmware and if these do not work then ask your service provider to send you the sms settings .

ok even if you had a nextel sim you cannot send an "sms" you can only send "mms" nextel even on the other phones never allowed sms texting. you will have to deal with just the mms messaging, need anymore help text me @ 215-982-6687 BigT

Hello, we need more information if your message can't be send after typing it and select phone number, maybe the number server is missing or wrong. for that ask the operator for the server sms number and add it in message option (number server).

If you are attempting to use a T-Mobile SIM card in a Nextel Motorola i730 mobile phone it will NOT work.

T-Mobile phones operate off of a GSM network. The Nextel i730 operates on an iDEN network.

The phone you have can never be compatible with the network you are trying to use it on.

the nextel is on whats called an IDEN network and tmobile is on a GSM network two very different systems. you can get a unlock code for the nextel phone but you'll still run into problems using those two combinations.

I had the same problem but I have nextel. I called them and they just told me to send all text messages as 'MEDIA MESSAGES' and it works!

First of all, what service do you use? I'd assume you are using Nextel, which is iden. For this reason, setting it to gsm doesn't work. iden was apparently the last setting used, so "last active" also works. Motorola, for some unknown reason, decided not to allow Nextel users to text message.

There are two ways around this.
1. One is to send a multimedia message with only text (no pictures, sounds, etc). This should be treated as a text message.
2. The other way is to follow this guide, which should allow you to change the registry on your phone and get rid of the message. Note that the first posters made the guide for telus users, so be sure to use the nextel sms number (found later in the thread, I believe).
