We have a Maytag Dryer Model DE 8410 100093--BS. It has worked fine but lately we hear a kind of rumbling sound when we start the dryer. It sounds like there is something stuck near the dryer drum that grinds a little to start and then it seems to go away but there is a rumbling sound after this but the drum rotates just fine and the clothes dry ok. I am wondering if there is something I could fix. When I opened the metal plate in the back of the dryer and started it up the sound seems to be coming from the pulley wheel that drives the drum. I can turn the dryer by hand when i grab the belt and it seems to go quite easily. Wonder if you have and suggestions. Thank you

Hello, The problem with it not drying is most likely going to be a worn out blower wheel thats slipping and not moving the warm air through the clothes to dry them properly. Always a pretty good sign the blower is slipping is,if you hear a rumble noise from the dryer at start up and also that same rumbling noise when the power stops. So if you hear it at start up...wait 30 seconds and open the door and listen for the rumble noise as drum stops. also you can check where the vent exits the house and see if their is air flow when the dryer is running.
Sounds like you need rear rollers or you have a bad blower wheel. If you turn the dryer off and still hear the rumble for a few seconds its the blower wheel. If the rumbling stops instantly then you have bad rear rollers. Hope this helps.
That model of neptune dryer had a problem with the blower housings cracking. When the housing cracks, it binds forward into the blower wheel making a loud "rumble" noise and vibration. If you open the door and manually turn the drum and you hear a rubbing noise and feel alot of resistance, then you have a cracked blower housing and need to replace it. It is not an easy job to replace, so if your not familiar with dryers, you should have a technician replace it. Let me know if you have any further questions. shane
This sounds like a typical blower malfunction.
The links below, provided by www.repairclinic.com, will show you how to locate the blower and disassemble the dryer to replace the blower.
Some special tools may be required.
If you remove the front cover and access the blower fan and see if it is still tight on the shaft. if it isn't it makes a rumble sound when started due to vibrating and after a while it makes more noise as it goes. Now I removed the fan and placed a shim in the flat area and matched the flat area of the shaft and replace it back on the shaft and it should solve it.
Replace your blower wheel. (This is fairly common repair for some Maytag dryers) It is not too hard to do. If you can confirm your model number I can give you a part number and tell you how to get to it if needed.
