Dryer makes rumbling sound when starting

I would check the drum rollers and glides first, the other cause may be the idler assembly which is next to the motor, it keeps tension on the belt. Since you will have it apart you can check the belt for cracks and wear, if it looks good then I would not replace it. eBay is a cheap place to find dryer parts, here is a website on the rollers/glide you can go to the virtual repairman and it will help. Sounds like a broken spring or a spring mount.

Your problem sounds like drum rollers have flat spots on them or in need of lubrication.
If you have a front loading machine, Unplug the dryer, remove the front of the dryer. This will expose the drum and belt, remove the drum and belt and this will expose the drum rollers.
Check your rollers for flat spots, if they have flat spots on them replace them.
If they don't then they probably only need lubrication. Lubricate the shaft of the roller with a good grade of machine oil such as 3 in One oil. Reassemble the dryer, plug back in. This should solve you noise problem.
Yes, replacing the drum rollers is fairly cheap especially if you do it yourself, saves you the price of a new dryer for a few more years maybe.

That model of neptune dryer had a problem with the blower housings cracking. When the housing cracks, it binds forward into the blower wheel making a loud "rumble" noise and vibration. If you open the door and manually turn the drum and you hear a rubbing noise and feel alot of resistance, then you have a cracked blower housing and need to replace it. It is not an easy job to replace, so if your not familiar with dryers, you should have a technician replace it. Let me know if you have any further questions. shane

The squeaking is coming from the rollers that the drum rides on. If you take the model number to a local appliance service store they will have the parts and be able to direct you on replacing them.

Have someone change the bearing, it sounds like it has busted on ya. The rumbling sounds like the ball bearings in the bearing have failed.

It sounds like a faulty roller under the drum. Need to pop the top of the dryer, then remove the front -- you'll probably easily spot the faulty part.

Check the drum bearing, a load noise, and often spinning problems are symptoms of a bad drum bearing.The bearing is at the base of the drum and accessing it is not easy.
