Hi, my Philips DVDR3455H/75 DVD/Hard disk lemon doesn't start right up. Has always been slow to start & show on TV, but now just keeps on checking the DVD for a disc & then tries the hard drive. It sounds like it spins & then a pause & then gives up & goes back to retrying the dvd.
Shows "PHILIPS" on the front display & TV when connected, but goes no further. Does a restart / reboot again & again ...
Any ideas for getting the Hard Drive going or accessing it ? or any redirect to a helpfull thread ?
THE DVDR3455H HAS A COMMON PROBLEM AFTER A FEW YEARS THE HARD DRIVE GO BAD, IT WONT BOOT UP
99% OF THE PROBLEM WITH THE PHILIPS DVDR3455 IS THE HARD DRIVE.
IT WILL KEEPING REEBOOT OR IT WILL HANG ON THE PHILIPS LOGO.
IT IS NOT A FIRMWARE PROBLEM IT AHARD DRIVE PROBLEM.
ONE THING YOU SHOULD KNOW, IF THE HARD DRIVE IS BAD YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO UPGRADE THE FIRMWARE IT WILL NOT READ THE CD OR DVD DISK.
AT THIS POINT IT NOT LOOKING FOR A FIRMWARW DISK BUT IT LOOKING FOR THE BOOT UP SOFTWARE.
OR THE LOAD CD WHAT PHILIPS CALL IT.
SOLUTION REPLACE THE HARD DRIVE WITH THE LOAD SOFTWARE INSTALL ON IT.
THE HARD DRIVE IS SOLD ON EBAY JUST LOOK FOR DVDR3455H YOU WILL FIN NEW DRIVE READY TO INSTALL THAT WILL FIX YOUR PROBLEM.
It sounds like the hard drive is either corrupted or failed. This appears to be a fairly common problem with this unit. Have you tried downloading and installing the latest firmware from the Philips website? Since you can't power on all the way, you'll probably have to open the DVD drive drawer using the emergency release slide on the bottom of the unit. When you power on, it should display LOAD / COPY / BOOT, power off and on automatically, and then display FLASH1.
If that doesn't work, as in it repeatedly goes through the LOAD / COPY / BOOT, then you might still be able to fix it by formatting the hard drive using a PC, and then following the above procedure. I ended up having to do a full format (NTFS) after a week of quick formats, but I don't know if this is actually required. All I know is that it worked in my case.
Good luck.
Elksdad,
You are right. After formatting the HDD with low level formatting. Then fully formatting it with NTFS and loading the firmware CD, finally I was able to make the DVDR3455H/97 work and run normally.
Thanks a lot.
Note: In order for a person to check if Philips HDD is OK or damaged, try to connect it ti a PC and save files on it. Then disconnect from power and re-connect. If you are able to see the files again, theny you have no hardware issues with the HDD and you can still reuse it.
