your hard drive might be turned off in bios check the boot sequence

Windows XP will not boot up. After Asus start-up screen, screen goes black with blinking cursor.

That blinking cursor is the way in which the BIOS is telling you that Windows is missing - its most critical, core files have been corrupted beyond repair. The only thing you can do is to reinstall using the recovery cd or your own Windows install disk and an external cd unit.

On my daughters Asus Eee pc notebook 901/XP on start up the screen stays black and a flashing cursor in the top right though after several mins no change, how can i fix this.

It's possible that the disk-drive inside the computer has failed.
So, the copy of Windows stored on the disk-drive cannot be read, and Windows cannot start-up.

Take the computer to a qualified technician, for trouble-shooting (which may include replacing the disk-drive).

Is it still under warranty? (Was it purchased with a credit-card that automatically doubles the length of the warranty?)

Cursor keeps jumping when typing

Go to control pannel uninstall drivers from device manager and check annd also while typing if your palms or wrist touched the touch pad

How would i connect my laptop to my daughters netbook? is there anyway i can do this and then boot from the dvd-rom in my laptop to perform a fresh install on the netbook?? my laptop is a acer aspire 5920...

Hi,
You should put the installation cd directly in the netbook. Start the netbook with the cd in the dvd drive and when the message appears "Press any key to boot from cd" press enter. Then you must follow the onscreen instructions to reinstall Windows (the procedure differs for each operating system).

Eee pc boots to blinking cursor

You need to enter the bios when the computer turns on and configure the boot priority to boot from wherever you need it to for the Restore DVD. Then Save your changes and exit, now it should boot from the Restore DVD.

To enter BIOS it should tell you what button to press as the computer POST's, if not Google it, or try all the function keys.

How do i reset a eee pc 901

To reset my 901 XP, I remove the battery as shown on page 3-3 of the instruction manual.
The reset button can now be accessed: it is a small shiny metal
plate, about 3mm by 15 mm located on the left of the battery compartment (closest to the LAN port).
Press the metal plate once with a ballpoint.

I would guarantee 98% that its your harddrive. I had a similar problem w/ one of my older computers. I installed a new harddrive and that fixed the problem.. Stay away from seagate hds, they are junk.

I guess ur using a licensed and 'updated' antivirus..
howevr, hv aglance ovr the software strength..look for startup items (the programsloaded during startup)..download n install n run 'Statup ControlPanel'..

andmicrosoft kb890830..remove the unnecessary boot item(s) or do post me acomplete list of startup item that the Startup CPL is showing (in itzevery tab), i'll guide u..
also u may use 'Advanced System Care Pro' to fix all at a time..
always better to get supervision frm ur system admin/vendor....
