WHEN I USE THE STEAM FEATURE IT LEAKS WATER OUT ON TO THE SHIRT, LIKE IT'S SPITTING. I CLEANED THE IRON SEVERAL TIMES AND IT CONTINUES TO SPIT ON MY SHIRTS.

Check to see the amount of water the iron requires. If too much is added it will spit water out can also come out of where the water goes in plus the holes the steam should come out. In order for the iron to steam the water must boil inside the iron. Check the instructions and see how mmuch the manufacturer suggests. You may have to fill it several times while doing the ironing. If there is no instruction try consulting the manufacturers web site for information on your make and model of iron. They should have instruction manuals available for download. If that is not the problem it could be cracked on the inside. Give the water adjustment a try first though a lot cheaper in the long run.

Self-Cleaning and Maintaining Sole Plate

Use the self-cleaning feature once a month by moving the steam lever back and forth from the "dry" setting several times. This will remove any residue from the steam valve and ensure that the steam system works properly.

Wipe the sole plate with a soft, damp cloth while the iron is cool and unplugged.

Run the iron over a cotton cloth several times to remove any residue from the sole plate.

Cleaning Anti-Calcium Feature

Fill the water cup that came with your iron. Use enough water to reach the Sunbeam logo in the top corner of the cup.

Add a teaspoon of salt to the cup and stir.

Empty the salt solution into the water reservoir in your iron.

Allow the iron to stand for 15 minutes, then empty out the water reservoir.Repeat this cycle with a second cupful of salt water.

Rinse out the reservoir with clean water. You should perform this cleaning once a month.

hi i have just looked this information up and apparently that using 100% distilled water can cause your iron to spit and leak, to solve this problem you should press the steam button and keep pressing it until there is no water left in the iron, then try it again, if it still does this, repeat a few times and then the iron should be fine

2:Use your steam iron on a rigid surface like an ironing board. In a rush, you might be tempted to quickly iron a blouse or pants on the nearest available surface like a bed, carpet or even on a table with a towel draped over it. However, these surfaces may not provide the proper amount of level padding for successful steam ironing, and leaks are more likely to occur. Take the time to set up your ironing board for smooth steam ironing to reduce water leaks on a bumpy surface.

3:Allow your steam iron to heat fully in the upright position before ironing. Because your steam iron is designed to convert water into steam that will easily smooth out wrinkles on bulky fabrics, you can avoid leaks by ensuring your iron has time to get the water to the correct temperature. If you lay your steam iron in the horizontal position too quickly, water that is not hot enough to convert to steam will leak. Give the iron a chance to heat up, and then test your steam function on your ironing board cover or spare fabric swatch before tacking your favorite blouse.

4:Turn off the steam function on your iron when ironing at lower temperatures. Since your iron's steam function is designed to convert the water in your iron to steam at the right temperature, lower iron temperatures can cause water to leak if your steam setting is still activated. The dirty water coming out of your iron steam holes is caused by the accumulation of 'dirty' tap water: if you look inside an eletric kettle, you will see the same 'dirty' muddy brown mineral residue on the inside. In addition, if your iron is old, it can also be rust. It is a pretty common problem that can be minimized by using distilled water. You can get commercial steam iron cleaning fluid to clean the inside of your steam iron or you an simply use vinegar: 1) with a cold iron, fill the reservoir with straight vinegar 2) Place your iron on top of a metal kitchen rack above your kitchen sink, turn iron on and let it steam out all the vinegar: it should spit out the whitish mineral and muddy brown deposity. 3) Refill iron reservoir with clean water and repeat as of step 2. 4) Refill iron reservoir with clean water, wipe any dirty from the sole plate and this time on full steam, iron on clean layers of Kitchen paper to ensure that all dirt has been removed from the inside of the iron reservoir, if not, repeat from step 1 again.
In the future, try to use distilled or at least filtered water.

OMG, how frustrating to be ironing and water shoot out everywhere from this iron....So, to remedy it, I have turned off the steam, use it as a dry iron, and have a spray bottle handy to spray as I iron...love the feel of this iron, but hate the water everywhere...

fill with water turn iron on max keep turning steam dial all the way to the right until you get to self clean hold iron horizontal and make sure you have a towel or something to catch water drips and debris coming out of iron let iron steam and spit water out until it stops on its own turn dial back to regular steam settings wipe residue off of the plate with a towel adjust temp settings back to normal
