My computer doesnt have any sound. when i play the winamp the error occured was "Bad direct sound driver error code 88780078" My OS is XP pentium III. The sound card is built in in my mother board which is AOpen. I already cheked the device manager and it was all properly intalled. I tried to go the control panel and check the audio device but it was disabled. I tried also to go the volume control but when i click it its said that "there are no active mixer divice available. I have the driver of my mother board. i already installed the proper driver of the audio but still doesnt work.

Enable your sound device in device manager.also check in bios and see if your on board sound is enabled or disabled if its disabled inable it.also check and see if you have the latest driver for the sound device.also check sound properties. hope this helps.
If your built in is not working and u install all drivers...better replace your built in sound card and buy a new sound card device...

If the audio device is disable that means your sound drivers is not install or has the wrong one some times the cd with the motherboard drivers does not install every ting or has 2 or more drivers for audio so you can reinstal your soun driver again just explore your cd for drivers
when i was talking about the drivers on your cd is because you did't say the you have a pci sound card so for that let me tell you your pci sound card just fail you wants to know why or how when you plug your speakers and you used at hight volumen plus your speakers are biger than the watts then the output from your sound card so that did get on the pci sound card overheating and finally burnd the chips and you wont see bad drivers because the drivers are ok for the pci card but that does't mean the card is ok because the conection from the motherboard to the pci is ok on the imput side thats what the computer check but the computer does not ckeck the output and that is where the problem is located the only choise replace the pci sound card and if you wants to use the same speaker get a better one and rate as a fixya

Actually my computer before was fully functioned. this was happened when i tried my new speaker. Actually i used my speaker for a couple of hours then suddenly it goes into silent. i tried to restart my computer and play again my winamp, then the error apears "bad direct sound driver". i tried to install again the driver but still did not work. because of my dissapointment i re-format my computer hoping to solve the problem but still im so dissapointed. i already followed you suggestion to find another driver in the CD but after a couple of trying doesnt work. Is it the sound card of my computer disfunction already? how do i know it? When i check the device manager it was all properly installed.

actually, 5 days before i bought new speakers after connecting speakers i got " drivers not supporting to your system" then my system engineer rectified the problem after a couple of hours started same problem after 3 days system got trouble i.e display prblem.
