If your machine has a belt inside, it is probably bad.
However, most do not.
I am suspecting you have a bad bearing inside the machine, and the burning smell is wires; in the which case, please do not use this machine again until it is repaired, so you do not experience a fire.

Heat up a cup of water in microwave until boiling in a two cup Pyrex measuring cup. Add one more cup of tap water. Our it in the blender and let it soak. If it doesn't work, repeat but with less tap water.

It means it's working very hard,
I suggest to put items that are thick in first and blend them then add the other ingredients after , the smell is the coating on the motor getting hot , if you see smoke coming out, drink your smoothie wash it out and take it back for a new one.

Are you blending something hot? When you blend a hot item the steam that is released will increase the pressure in the headspace above the contents in the blender. The lid will eventually blow off to release the pressure.

To avoid this problem begin blending with no more that one cup of ingredients. Before turning the blender on, remove the center lid insert to allow venting of steam. Blend on low speed. As you blend you can add another 1 1/2 cups of additional liquid through the opening in the lid.

No need to oil it. The carbon brush maybe sparking already it is located inside the motor. It is due to damaged Armature or overloaded motor.

My Waring 51BL16 is having difficulty blending and some mechanism on the inside keeps spinning once the blender has been turned off...any ideas?
