11 1/2 year old Mitsubishi WS-55805 - 55 in rear projection TV has convergence issues as the colors are starting to shadow. Trying to weight the cost of repair or replace. Any suggestions?

This model should use two of the STK392-040 convergence IC chips.
Parts cost on Ebay for a pair of these is under 35 dollars.

Repair does involve soldering and removal of middle board in order to get at the parts.

I have step by step instructions for a similar model that is available.

If you or someone you know can do the repair you can save a lot of money and the set.

These sets are much more reliable than the Plasma and LCD type sets.

Here in San Diego most shops get about 200-300 for this repair.

It can be done in your home, I have done hundreds of them in homes.

If you want to see the instructions let me know and we will find a way to get them to you.

My bigscreen TV Mithsubishi model WS-55805 just

First thing I do on these is to disconnect power cord, pull off the front speaker grill and remove the small door covering the tubes. Get a bright light and look for coolant leaking down from the metal shields that cover the high voltage anode on the picture tubes. There is a chamber on each tube that contains ethylene glycol or antifreeze to keep the tubes from overheating. Sometimes the gaskets get a leak and coolant drips down onto the circuit board. Look very closely at the board to see if there are any drips below the tubes. If this is the case you may consider replacing the set but some can be saved by cleaning the board and sealing the leaks. Have a pro look at the tv if this doesn't help because all you can get online is a guess. Second thing that could cause this is a failure in the vertical or convergence circuit that would entail part replacement at a cost of 200-300. If you find no coolant on the circuit board that means the convergence circuit or the vertical circuit needs to be rebuilt. These sets are known for having bad capacitors on the boards that eventually have to be replaced when a failure occurs. Good luck, Russmann.

Blue tint to picture, looks 3D

Projection TV sets are known to have two common problems. The first problem that is common to these sets is convergence failure. When this happens the TV will usually look 3D, Wavy/Distorted, etc. It may also shutdown and blink an error code.

The second common problem with Projection TV sets is dull video, halos around objects, white looking video, or red overpowers the screen. This is commonly caused by the fluid in the lens being clouded overs. To get fixed either call in a local TV repair company or goto sites such as Tv Repair Kits to get a repair kit with instructions. Here is there link.

They have put together complete kits for most models that include the parts, step by step photo instructions, repair assistance, etc.

I cannot adjust the blue with the remote. Is there way to adjust.

WS-55805 ?

Look on the back of the set and confirm the correct model number--55805 does not show as a good model number.

If blue will not adjust what ever it uses (either one or two convergence chips need to BOTH be replaced and then the set adjusted.

I HAVE START TO FINISH, STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS FOR THIS REPAIR for most of these sets.

Double check the model number and let me know and I will tell you what parts it uses and also then be able depending on the model number to give you the instructions etc.

Mitsubishi model ws-55859 tv is red and red

If it is WS-55859 and you go into the customer menu and find red or blue are skewed and will not adjust---you have a convergence problem.

This model uses a single STK-393-110 convergence chip--it and any of the protect resistors around it that are bad will need to be replaced and the set adjusted.

The chip can be purchased on Ebay for about 12 dollars plus shipping--total parts cost should be under 30 dollars!

I HAVE START TO FINISH, STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS FOR THIS REPAIR IN THIS MODEL.

They tell you everything you will need and how to do the repair---If you or someone you know can do it I can post or get the instructions to you.

If you cannot do it shop around your area--most shops are going to get 300 or MORE for this kind of repair and many will not do in in your home--Any good tech can do it in your home in about 1 hour--I know as I have done hundreds of them.

If you have questions or need help let me know--I am here to help people.
