I've got a Troy built edger that was my dads RIP. It hasn't been used much and certainly not serviced recently, he was sick for a long time. Prior to use, I filled it with premium unleaded 98 and oil Powercare SAE 10W-30 both empty. It starts easy on the first full but blows a lot of black, gray smoke and oil spits from the blower vent ? Exhust vent?. I've cleaned the oil area, no oil was spilled or gas but both are in a different area than where it is blowing out oil & smoke. I went onto website for Troy Built Briggs & Stratton and found the users manual but it referred me to an engine manual, neither helped regarding troubleshooting on this issue. I'm afraid to let it run any period of time one minute max. This isn't my area of expertise but I'm very capable of following directions when available. Any help appreciated. Deb
Check the oil level. If it shows overfull then likely the carburetor fuel inlet needle is not closing and there's fuel in the crankcase.
