I have a Vizio V655-G9 that wouldn't turn on after a suspected lightning surge. I ordered a new power supply thinking this was the logical culprit. After installing the new power supply board I plugged the tv in to test it and I immediately heard a pop from the new board. Tv still won't turn on. What would cause this? If the main board was bad could it cause my new PS to go bad? Could the power cord be bad? I have closely inspected both the main board and the new/old PS boards and from the best I can tell, there is no physical damage.
In most cases issues with the main will not damage a power board but if the set had a direct hit from lightning anything is possible. Order another power supply install it and test the various rails going into the main for a direct short BEFORE powering the set on, if all the supply lines test ok it sounds like you may have got a defective power board. If the resistance is low on any of the rails you have a bad main. Your power cord should be ok. Good luck!!
There may be an internal short circuit with your TVs motherboard. The POP sound you heard might be a breakdown of the fuse installed on the power board. any way, your TV need a through check up. If you're not sound in electronics, it will be better to contact any experienced service technician in this case. Please do not do any experiments with this set. OK?
