How do ball bearings go into a rear tire of a bike

Ball bearings do not go into a bike tire, they go into the wheel hub of a bike. These bearings are in a cage and pressed into the hub of the bike.

2007 ford sport trac rear wheel bearing replacement

Jeff is describing how to replace the front wheel bearings. In the front, the bearing is part of a "hub cartridge". Randy is describing how to change the rear bearings on a truck with a "dead" rear axle. The sort of differential which is one massive cast iron assembly from rim to rim. However, your truck has an IRS [Independent Rear Suspension] design. You need to remove the wheels, brakes & the complete rear knuckle assembly. To remove the bearing from the knuckle requires a hydraulic press and a "knife edge" bearing removal tool. I doubt that you have these tools available. If not, find an auto parts store or auto machine shop with these tools. They can press the old bearing out and install the new one for you. Then you can reassemble the knuckle assembly from that point on. The video linked below should help you.

With the knuckle off, you can easily replace the ball joints at the same time. Odds are you will ruin the original ball joints getting the knuckle assembly off, anyway.

Do you know what bearings a 07 or 08 Capo rear wheel takes. It looks like 10x26x8. Any ideas

Depends on what rear wheel you have. The spec changed on these bikes a few times throughout the the 2 years you mention. Need to know what rear hub you have.

You can take into any bike shop and they can tell you quickly with a visual inspection what bearings it needs. If you have cartridge bearings it will have a number like 6002 on the rubber seal, if they are standard round loose ball bearings than it will be a size like 1/4" for rear.

The bike is circa 1982, ten speed, and the chain stopped rolling as I coasted. I took the rear tire off and removed all the stuff down to the cassett and lots of 1/4 and more 1/16 balls and washers and...

Hi, before the loose bearings are installed you need to insert the shaft through the wheel hub. Then, apply some thick grease to the bearing race, (that's the curved part where the bearings ride). With the grease in place you can "stick" the bearings onto the race one by one. Then, thread the opposing race to that side and hold it in place to repeat the procedure on the other side of the hub. Hope that helps!
