did you lose the PC, none told
what PC is is this maker and model
    and 2005 monitors are TRASH.
the CCFL lamps do not last this long and CCFL back lamp monitors need to be in the trash.
bad monitor test it on a 2nd good PC.
    BAD monitor cable.
PC dead, as monitor works on good PC.
why would a PC fail white screened.
well lots really, no PC told. but here is sample list.
1: PC GPU card is dead.
2: PC needs a hard reset ,ask. (or unplug PC AC power cord for say 4 hours the put back power cord to wall)
3: PC OS is corrupted, and locks up white screened, no OS told by you, so no answers.
if OS is corrupted go in to BIOS setups
see if bios screens are bad.(white)
if yes the PC for sure has bad hardware.
some new PCs will not run this old monitor if the modern OS is not set to a lower resolution. 1280 x1024 @ 60 Hz (analog)

this monitor is junk class, it is too old
to last, most are dead now.
5 year life on tubes CCFL background lamps inside.
20,000 hours. get rid of it now, and not be caught with no working monitor !!!

if the question is or was, how to test a monitor with no PC present (none there)
ask, we can do lots of things with NO PC.
some monitors are used on NON PC purposes
like on huge CCTV systems or in a server farm. to service systems there.
we have no idea at all what is on your desk
    NOT TOLD.!!
but do buy a real LED Monitor and dump this pig. 2010 or newer never buy 2005 monitors.

A white computer screen can appear sometimes if your graphics card is bad . If the computer screen turns white as soon as you press the Power button that's a good sign that there something is wrong with the computers graphics card.
Try Pressing Ctrl + Alt + Delete.on the keyboard for your computer or try to reboot your computer too. You can fix the white screen issues here by simply using a keyboard shortcut. Try pressing Ctrl + Alt + Delete all at once then when the white screen shows up.

the monitor is dead, not windoz.

  • Anonymous Mar 27, 2021

If the PC is dead and white screened
    Control alt delete is dead.
    dead is dead.
    we run hardware diagnostics first.
no OS on earth runs on dead hardware.
    So is first .

SOURCE: Why our HP L1740 17

Good Day sir/maam, lets try to make sure that the LCD is the problem and not the CPU,

  1. Swap your LCD to a good CPU, to check if the LCD is good (visit a friend who has a PC).
  2. Or as you boot your PC, did you hear a single beep? and
  3. Does your PC hard disk led blinks.
If you insist that the LCD is the problem, you may need to check first your dealer for advice.

SOURCE: I have an hp pavilion

First of all you can check the computer by connecting another monitor to it to see if the problem goes away...if so then the problem would be in the monitor. If not , then I would try to change the video grafics card in the computer(assuming you don't have built in video). If you have built in video on the mother board then you will either need to replace the motherboard or disable the onboard video and install a video card

SOURCE: our hp L1740 LCD monitor was no display and no power indicator at all.

Hello, welcome to Fixya!

Your monitor is having a power fault because it is not switching on. The monitor might have worked fine in the past, but that's electronics for you. Power surge, irregular power supply, excess power supply, etc can affect the unit thereby not making it to power on.

First, remove the unit's power cord from the wall, wait for about 30mins, then plug it back in. If it doesn't power on, plug it into another outlet, to make sure there electric current entering into the rmonitor.

If plugging into another power outlet doesn't power it on then it confirms that the receiver is having a power fault.

When electric current comes from the power outlet into the monitor, it goes straight into the power supply board which then circulates the current into the unit. So if the monitor doesn't power on, the first thing is to make sure there is power entering into the monitor.

So check the power cord, if it is a 3-pin plug, it must have a fuse in it. check the fuse if it is not blown. if fuse is intact, then power supply board should be checked.

This unit must have a power supply board in it where power enters from the mains. A capacitor, fuse, diode, etc may have been defective on the power board and maybe that's why its not making the unit turn on. There might also be some disconnection or something, inside the unit which is not making it to power on.

To actually find out what's wrong, you need to disassemble the unit with a screw driver and check what's wrong. You will be needing a meter and continuity tester in order to read the components on the power board. Once you detect any bad component, you can make necessary replacement at any electronics accessories store withing our vicinity. This is the only way by which you can detect and solve the problem.

Of course, testing the power board with a meter will require someone that has the ability. So it you can't, then you might be needing the help of a repairman or you can call a friend that has the ability to help you out.

I wish you the best of luck.

Regards.

Why does my monitor HP L1740 post a picture for a few seconds and then shuts off. only py turning the monitor off and on manualy it posts again but for only a few seconds. i have it opened up already.

if the monitor fails on 2 PCs the monitor has hardware issues, does it?
costs not a dime to plug it into friends PC with vga cable.
you said IT Shuts off,? does that mean.
the power button, has 3 colors, led status
off black led.
on green led.
amber led, sleep.
is it light going out?
or just a screen black,
if just screen black does OSD work on demand
yes, no?
if yes the monitor is not dead.(not totally)
if no it is dead.

seems your PSU board inside if bad, if the monitor goes dead.
Old monitors 2000-2007 had sleep timer.
disable that junk now.

seems it is a bad monitor, but id have to see it
and do many tests to condemn it.
Most of these monitors died long ago.
CCFL deathh(sic).
The first ones made in 2005 so is 13 years old.
Nevers seen one this old good.
CCFL failures are classic and super COMMMON.:
dead,
blinking (strobing effects)
yellow for white screens
dim

My hp 1502 lcd monitor only shows a white screen

If you don't use an identical monitors, then they may not work if your video card can not handle them. The "check video cable" it means the monitor does not get a signal, and it does not mean that the monitor is a problematic monitor. You can test this monitor as a single monitor (and try to connect it using first video port, and then move it to the second video port).

Please, my laptop screen just start showing white whenever I on it

Your lcd screen is going bad and needs to be replaced. It could be the video card but most likely the lcd screen is going bad. Try connecting another monitor to the laptop to isolate the problem. Borrow a monitor from a neighbor, friend, relative or co-worker and connect it to the computer. If the Borrowed monitor displays ok without the white screen then your video card is ok and your lcd screen is bad . If the Borrowed monitor displays the same white screen then your video card inside the computer is bad.

The video will show on most systems when you reboot without you having to do anything. Some systems will require you to hit the FN (Function key) + F1 thru F12. Hold down the FN key then hit the correct key for displaying on the monitor (F1 thru F12). The correct key will normally have CRT/LCD on it or it will have the icon of a display.

that always do if the program you are using does not support screen resolution settings on your monitor.

when it automatically on adjustment mode, try to default that mode on your system.

My hp 1740 automatically turns on and off in seconds

krishna s701, ALL cold cathode fluorescent lamp, back-lit lcd monitors use the same basic engineering design principles and mode of operation to display information on the glass lcd panel. I suggest you surf over to this old blog and see if something seems familiar!!! http://www.lesliewong.us/blog/2005/05/02/hp-pavilion-f1703-flat-panel-display-blackout-solution/ My best guess is that the internal "switch-mode-power-supply" has detected a "fault condition" with itself or the CCFL electronic ballast circuit and goes into "full or partial shutdown mode" to save itself from a catastrophic, nonrecoverable event!! e.g. sparks, smoke, fire!! 12fixlouie
