What is meant by a Firewall in Computer Networking Security?

  • Larry Ng
    Larry Ng Jun 04, 2020

that is a complex topic, for sure.
it is LAN and WAN security device.
why not google this or take a computer class?
a zillion great web site covers this so me answering is redundant to the max.

lets do 1 answer for one of many ways a fire wall works that is WAN to LAN.
that means from the internet to you PC at home.
your WAN ISP port is 100% locked out.
If fact mine here can not be even pinged.
    I'm 100% safe here.

Seen both in the ROUTER and again in the OS you run.
you have 2 fire walls for sure.

NO OS told but W10 has this too. control panel firewall look.
there is also Lan to lan, lan to wan firewalls.
Think of a firewall as huge digital filter, that is what it is.
    from simple to complex.

I can't get the laptops at my library to connect to the internet after the installation of the sonicwall fire wall. help!

Is "sonicwall fire wall" a separate computer-networking appliance, or is it software that runs on each laptop?

Uninstall it, and enable the Windows Firewall. This latter firewall is just as good as any "commercial" software.

I have a virus that has control of my laptop and cannot access the internet without numerous Windows Essentials Security taking control Sorry, I meant Windows Security Center

I suggest you boot your computer into 'Safe Mode with Networking". This can be done by:
-rebooting computer or turning it on if it is currently off
-when you see the bios screen begin tapping 'F8'
-this should eventually bring up a black screen with white text
-choose Safe Mode with Networking

While in safe mode you should now download the free version of MalwareBytes. Install and allow it to update. Now run a full scan and have it fix any problems that it finds. Reboot your computer and hopefully everything is back to normal.

If this doesn't work you may have to back up all your personal files to another drive and restore/reinstall the operating system.

Hope this is helpful. Let me know if you have any questions or need any further help

I am neha and want to do phd in computer science so please suggest me a write topic for it in the field of networking

In the field of networking you can try doing a Phd in Wireless security...
Right now there are about 3 types of wireless security, but only one type is compatible with all operating systems... But that kind of security is not more secure.... Other types of security that are more secure are not compatible with certain wireless cards...
Why dont you do a research in that...????
Any further help, comment back....

Printer won't print from my computer.

CHECK THESE THINGS IN THE CONTROLL PANEL, DEVICE MANAGER, NETWORKING AND SHARING, PROBLEMS AND REPORTS, SECURITY, WINDOWS SECURITY, WINDOWS FIREWALL.

NOT DOING THESE CHECKS IN THIS ORDER WILL BE A PAINFUL PROBLEM, CHECKING EVERYONE OF THESE AREAS, YOU WANT ALL GREEN MARKS, ************* NO

RED, ORANGE, YELLOW MARKINGS, THIS WILL STOP THE MACHINE FROM WORKING PROPERLY.*********************

THE SHARING AND NETWORKING WILL GIVE THE MACHINE AND THE OUT SIDE WORLD A WAY TO COMMUNICATE AND PRINTS AND SHARE DOCUMENTS.

LAST WINDOWS DEFENDER AND FIREWALL, ALSO WILL STOP DOCUMENTS FROM INTERING AND LEAVING THE COMPUTER.
I WOULD TURN EVERYTHING OF AND TURN ONE THING AT A TIME BACK ON UNTIL YOU FIND OUT WHITCH ONE IS GIVING YOU THE MOST PROBLEM. THAN TROUBLESHOOT THAT ON AT A LATER TIME WHEN YOU HAVE ALOT OF TIME TO DEVOTE TO THAT PROBLEM.

THAT IS ONE WAY THE OTHER WAY IS YOUR IS YOUR WAY.

  1. http://www.avast.com/ (antivirus take the home, its free 14months registeration is free, free for home use, after 14months you can register again, free of charge, I have used this software for few years)
  2. Comodo firewall http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/ or zonealarm firewall www.zonealarm.com
  3. Spybot antispyware software http://www.safer-networking.org/index2.html you need to run this program 1-4 times a month to keep your pc clean. it doesn't work on the background like the firewall and antivirus.
