Loop and nesting on wrong (bottom) side is usually low or zero tension of top thread. Can also be uneven feed of top thread. If unsure whether top or bottom thread try a different color top thread.

With a horizontal spool, be sure the spool cap is larger than the spool and that the thread unspools falling forward over the top of spool and not towards the rear (see user manual).

Test top thread tension... with foot up set tension to 4 and make a long steady pull. Then lower foot and make another long steady pull. Note difference in zero tension (foot up) and tension setting 4 (foot down). If no difference then make sure there's no debris or thread stuck in tension discs.

You can make a long steady pull of bottom thread and it should have a tension similar to the top thread with tension select at 4.

Elna expressive 900 thread breaking (although not really) and bunching up on underside of fabric ESPECIALLY when doing embroidery. Why?

try using gutermann thread and needle according to your fabric thickness and tension dial must be 3-5 and bobbin thread hold the end of the thread and bounce to see how loose the thread is cos if it releases too easy you need to turn the screw on the casing just a little see how you go

I have an old Elnita 130 sewing machine with no manual. How to I thread it? It appears to work but shows signs that I did not thread it correctly.

elna make elinta machine and a 140 is the same threading as a 130
try entering the sites as most I go to require an account ( free) to procedure to read or down load and that process would be better for you
I went google and typed in--user manual for elinta sewing machine model 130-- and the sites show 130, 140 and more so select a site and go from there
thee is also a www.youtube.com>watch that runs for 1.29 and shows how to thread an old elna sewing machine
you might pick up a clue from that film

How to tighten a loose bobbin case on an Elna 21C sewing machine?

The only thing to really tighten on a bobbin case is the tension screw. (Unless, what is really loose is the mechanism--hook, shuttle--that the bobbin case fits into.) It will probably be worthwhile to just bite the bullet and buy a new bobbin case for the machine. They aren't that expensive and it certainly will relieve a lot of potential future frustration.

In my old but good elna sewing machine thread got stuck in bobbin case and it is jammed

Sometimes it helps to try to remove the needle and the bobbincase. If you can get the bobbincase loose, the thread nest can then be removed.

My Elna 8600 is pretty new. I bought it last may

It sounds like the timing may have to be reset or adjusted - it happens, so do not be alarmed.

Open the needle plate, remove the bobbin and bobbin case and clean away any lint or thread snips that may be there.

Re-thread the machine with the presser foot up - always.

If there is still a problem find a dealer who will service the machine for you.

The Elna site should have dealer locations.

I have a old old elna Stella 27 and it's a beauty but I am having problems with the lower thread tangling until it is a thickish mass around the outer side of the place the bobbin goes, but then sometimes...

Hi! Congratulations on your old Elna! I just love old sewing machines; they are so solid and reliable.

(Unless of course you're getting a big bird's nest with the bobbin thread, right? That's so frustrating!)

With my old machines, I've found that a tiny bit of thread caught in the bobbin assembly can cause these nasty tangles. I use a bright flashlight and a pair of tweezers and just keep looking until I find it. While you're in there, clean out any old lint or gunk (meaning, old oil) you find. Brush all the lint out. I use a q-tip moistened with a bit of WD-40 to clean the gunk (but be careful that the fuzz from the q-tip doesn't come off while you're cleaning). With the WD-40, you have to be very careful not to get any of it on the surface of the machine--it can mess up some of those beautiful old finishes.

So clean the bobbin area, make sure you're threading the bobbin correctly, and lastly, if you hold the tails of the top and bobbin threads snugly in your left hand behind the needle while you take the first few stitches, the birds' nests should be a thing of the past.

Let me know if this works, ok?

Happy Sewing!

Elna Carine Electronic Sewing Machine

You should be able to buy a manual online but it may be a cd or image pdf file. Try www.sewingpartsonline.com or www.sewusa.com. If they don't have the Carina but have the Air Electronic SU, model 68 then this will be almost the same. Main difference is the Carina has the needle up/down button.
