Security Alert on Windows

I just installed Norton 360 on my lap top and when I click on the installed Norton ICON in my startup taskball I go to Norton Center and it indicates that I do not have Virus Protection. I was under the impression that Norton 360 had a Virus Protection. Am I misinformed? If not I am not sure why Norton Center states I am at risk for a virus.

you have to totally remove it with norton removal tool and then try installation again. Download it and then open the file by clicking on it in the downloaded file list or look for the download folder or right click on file and select open containing folder.

I've just downloaded Norton on my computer and wish to copy it to my 2 laptops. How is it done?

To correctly answer your question, I need to know the Norton program installed on your computer. Please check if the Norton program is Norton Internet Security, Norton360 or Norton Antivirus on your computer and do the following steps to install on the other computer

If it is Norton Internet Security, click on the link www.norton.com/nis11
If it is Norton Antivirus, click on the link www.norton.com/nav11
If it is Norton 360, click on the link www.norton.com/n360s_5

Double click the downloaded icon after the download has been completed
Follow the simple installation steps to install the latest version of Norton onto your other computer

That's all, friend,

How do you reinstall something

  • Hi, if your trying to "Re-install the Norton Security Software, and you had a problem or error while "Installing"; do the following: check the "Firewall," check to see if the Firewall is blocking the "Program" from being downloaded. Next check to see if there is already a "Security" software setup on the computer that is "conflicting with the download / reinstalling. You may need to have someone that have experience in checking theses areas if you have trouble finding them. I'm going to give you direct instruction to go to these areas you need to check. First, click on the "Start Button" when the window open, look in the (right side pane area) find the "Icon, Control Panel, click on it to open. There will be alot of listings, choose the "Security; Allow a program through Windows Firewall." There will be (3) buttons in the "Top" area of the next window, select the "Exception" button, click on the "Add program..." the window will change again, scroll through the "Programs until you find "Norton Security" and "highlight' just click on it, and "Click on the OK button. Restart the computer open the "software" you want to "Install / Reinstall and select to Install; follow all the instructions. Now if there is another security software interfering with the install, you have to go back to the "control Panel again, select to open, in the next window click on the (Programs) "Uninstall a program," find the software (highlight to uninstall), once you are finished, restart the computer; this will fix everything properly, if all goes well. "I hope for the best! Rating the solution is appreciated if you found it helpful, thank you."

To run the Microsoft Windows Installer if Norton AntiVirus was installed from the CD
  1. Insert the Norton AntiVirus CD into the CD-ROM drive.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • If the installation program appears, then click Browse the CD
    • If the installation program does not appear, then double-click the My Computer icon on the Windows desktop, and then double-click the CD-ROM drive icon.
  3. Double-click the MSI folder.
  4. Do one of the following:
    • In Windows 98/Me, double-click the WIN9x folder.
    • In Windows 2000/XP, double-click the WINNT folder.
  5. Do one of the following:
    • In Windows 98/Me, double-click the Instmsi.exe file.
    • In Windows 2000/XP, double-click Instmsiw.exe if you have Windows 2000/XP.
  6. In the next dialog box, click Yes.
  7. After the rollback has finished, then reinstall Norton AntiVirus.
Follow the instruction in Reinstalling your Symantec program after a failed installation or after you see error messages to start the computer without any programs running on startup and then reinstall your Norton program.

If these steps do not fix the problem, then go on to the next section.

To run the Microsoft Windows Installer if Norton AntiVirus was installed from a downloaded version
  1. On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Find (or Search) > Files or Folders.
  2. Ensure that "Look in" is set to the drive where you downloaded Norton AntiVirus, and that "Include subfolders" is checked.
  3. In the "Named" or "Search for..." box, do one of the following:
    • In Windows 98/Me, type the following:

      instmsi.exe
    • In Windows 2000/XP, type the following:

      instmsiw.exe
  4. Click Find Now or Search Now.
You might see many files with this name. Look for the file with this name that is located in either the Symantec_Norton_AntiVirus_2003 or the your Windows temporary file location depending on your version of Norton AntiVirus.
  5. In the Search Results window, do one of the following, depending on your version of Windows:
    • In Windows 98/Me, double-click Instmsi.exe.
    • In Windows 2000/XP, double-click Instmsiw.exe.
  6. In the next dialog box, click Yes.
This will undo the changes that were made to your system during the first failed installation.
  7. After the process finishes, then reinstall Norton AntiVirus.
Follow the instruction in Reinstalling your Symantec program after a failed installation or after you see error messages to start the computer without any programs running on startup and then reinstall your Norton program.

Trying to download norton 360, but I'm getting a communication error as if there is a firewall preventing communication. The windows security centre (security essentials) shows the firewall switched on,...

I wouldn't worry too much about turning it off to do the download from Symantec's site. Just don't go surfing around while it's downloading. After the download turn it back on. Norton will turn it off anyway when you install 360.

You may want to uninstall the AdAware before you install 360 also just to avoid possible conflicts.
