Trouble I am having trouble with my cd/dvd drive. When I insert a disc, it runs for a few seconds and then the light goes off and nothing happens. Also when I go to my computer, it does not even pull up the cd/dvd drive. Help!

Replace the DVD drive. They are inexpensive and it's not worth your time to try and fix this drive...

Laptop Optiarc DVD RW AD 7530 B is not reading CD or DVD media.

1.DVD icon displayed in My Computer.
2.When I insert DVD or Cd in the drive,Green light flashes and tries to read the nedia and goes off within few seconds.
3.DVD drive in My Computer when clicked shows empty folder
4.Uninstalled DVD drivers in Device Manager and let windows find it on reboot
5.Issue still persists.
6.Right now external DVD RW works perfect.

Please help

If there are no activity lights, or a rhythmic flashing on the drive, then you may simply need a new drive. Small computer stores are usually the best place to go to get a replacement at low costs.
If you are just popping the disc in and waiting for something to happen, then your computer may not be automatically running the programs from the disc. In which case you will need to manually access the drive and run the correct program.

If the CD or DVD disks you inserted work in some other reader, then your reader is the problem -- even though it is properly connected to your computer, and Windows has the correct device-drivers, it is the "hardware" that is the problem.

When you insert a disk, rotate it to some position, i.e., top-lettering goes in first, and close the drawer. Do you hear the drive start to spin the disk? Open the drawer. Is the disk in the same (non-rotated) position? If so, then the motor that spins the disk is the problem. If the disk does spin, but nothing happens, then it is the "laser" part of the mechanics that is not working.

Replace it.

Hi there.
It sounds like the lens on F drive has gone as i cannot read disks, there is nothing you can do about this once the lens has give up.
The best thing you can do now is remove it from the desktop and just carry on using the DVD/RW as this is the only optical drive you need because it reads and writes DVD's and CD's.

Try to re-install the drivers for the drive.

check that the drive is present in my computer and try playing disc from there first. Also right click on the drive letter and go to properties. There's a trouble shooter there. Hope this helps

goto program defaults/media player/disc insertion= and choose the options you require. Or goto computer-cd/dvd drive and choose the program you wish to run the disc

if you have had two drives with the same problem i would check the ide cable and swap to another one if you have a master and slave twin connector ide cable, or even try the dvd rom on the same ide cable as the hard drive as you know that that ide connector and cable is working, unless you have a SATA hard drive in which case you won't be able to; but will still have a spare ide channel connector to try the drive on.

The laser lens in your drive might be dirty or failing. Try the following solutions: Clean the laser lens with a DVD player lense cleaning disc. Lense cleaning discs are available at many electronics retail store. Sorry i can't help you more.
