    ctf1800,

Thanks for the info and links. They were an eye opener and answer some past questions.

    Guest,

Thanks. ctf1800 also led me to the same link and since my original post Sears repair was able to get out sooner than I expected and I was able to know one of my problems was the optical block and they will be replacing it.

Otherwise there is a full recall on all 50XBR1's and 60XBR1's for ANY video issue.
But the bullentin I do have on that is Confidential due to the amount of claims SONY could recieve. But here is a sample of the bulletin.

Models: KDSR50XBR1, KDSR60XBR1

Subject: Optical Block: Warranty Policy and Part matrix by serial number.

Resolution: As part of Sony’s commitment to quality, Sony is announcing that it is extending the limited warranty (parts and labor) for optical block replacements on the models listed above until October 31, 2008, regardless of purchase date. Authorized servicers should follow the normal process for warranty claims for this issue.

KDS-R50XBR1

Most but not all of these sets have a reset---with set off and Sony remote hit display, 5, volume up, and POWER.

Set should come on in the tech menu---hit 8 on the remote and you should see the word RESET IN RED, then hit enter to complete the reset.

If the green band was there before it may be a optical light engine bad, these sets are well known for this.

I have a Sony SXRD KDS-R50XBR1 and the tv keeps shutting off and turning back on. While its off the green power light flashes. I just had the lamp replaced and the optical block replaced a few months...

Green light flashing is normal as the lamp warms up before turning on.
If it runs for a bit before turning off it's likely to be overheating somewhere.
Looks to be more than one fan in this so possibly dust in one of the others but there should be a "High Temperature Warning!" message if it's overheating. This set has a "high altitude mode" for extra cooling.
If it turns on and then turns off again instantly it might be something has failed.
There is quite a detailed service manual if you want to have a look for possible clues:

Yesterday after playing video games for a couple of hours my son tunrs off the set. He returns 45 minutes later turns the set on as usual the green power light flashes 3 times followed by a red indicator...

Red flashing 6x is a thermal fuse,I have serviced hundreds of these models and have never encountered 7x.If it is flashing 7x try unplugging the power for 2-3 hours and try it again. If that doesn't work you will need probably need a K-board.

Power light flashed red 4 times then repeats no pic,new bulb/fan!

Check the fan that cools the bulb. It is directly behing the bulb. It should turn on when the power comes on. It apparently has a safety to protect your tv(and home). mine is in the process of going out. looking for online solutions as we speak.

Sony kds-r50xbr1 turns itself off and then green light blinks 52

I too have a Sony KDS-R60XBR1 tv and the issue that you are experiencing is due to one of your fans in the rear of the tv is not working.  The tv automatically shuts off in protective mode.  Make sure the POWER/STANDBY light is blinking and not the lamp light below it.  Is the power/standby blinking 4 times in red? If, yes then its a fan that needs to be replaced.  If its the lamp light blinking then you need to replace the lamp.  The lamp is easy to replace by ordering the lamp either from Sony for $250 or find it cheaper for approx. $150 from other DLP sources and replace youself by following your manual.  I hope this helps you.

Sony kds-r50xbr1 turns itself off and then green light blinks 52 times

Just replace its Lamp and procedure is written in user manual of KDS-R50XBR1
F93087600 XL-5100 LAMP BLOCK
Lamp is available in Sony Accessories and price is $250
Always buy Sony original lamp for good picture in TV and avoid aftermarket / cheap lamps that can cause damage of TV circuits.
Click Sony Support to download Instruction Manual copy, if you want it.
