Looks like the Windows OS is already messed up. You should be able to boot the computer to safe mode to troubleshoot the issue. In your case, it is not booting up to safe mode then the only way to use your computer again is to restore it from the factory default state. If you want to do that, just turn off the computer then press the ONE KEY button located beside the power button then follow the on screen instructions.
I am going to have you take your Mac into Safe Mode to see if we can't remove a possible folder(s) that may be affecting your Mac's start up function.
Try these steps:
• Reboot your Mac • Upon restarting your Mac, press the Shift key. • Hold the Shift key until you see a White Screen with Gray Apple icon and eventually a spinning gear.
• When you see the Spinning gear, release the Shift key.
• Allow the Mac to continue booting up. Also this may take a little while (NOTE: this may take anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes to load to the Safe mode screen depending on the performance of your Mac, but if it exceeds this time, shutdown your Mac and try just once more. It may have just frozen up the first time around for you.)
• You are going to enter the Safe Mode (which looks like your main desktop environment - the only difference is certain start up items are disabled.)
• Once within the Desktop in Safe Mode • From the Finder Menu, click Go> Go to Folder • Type in this line: /System/Library/StartupItems • This path, is going to take you to the System Library folder which has all of your Mac OS X StartupItems.
• Remove all of those folders to the Trash.
*Reboot your Mac normally and see if you can access your normal User desktop environment.
This should help get your iMac G4 back up and running.
Try to see if you can boot up the computer into safe mode. Keep pressing the F8 key as you turn on the computer and when it gets to the boot menu choose "Safe Mode".
If you can get into safe mode then go into the start menu and go into the system tools folder and then choose system restore. Choose a date on the calendar when the computer was last working properly and let the system reboot and hopefully that will take care of the issue.
If you can't get into safe mode or windows normally then that means windows is corrupted and you'll need to wipe out the drive completely and reinstall the OS and device drivers.
If you are able to start the pc in safe mode, login as Administrator and restore the computer to a previous date when it was working fine.
When you turn on the computer in safe mode, it will show you the default user and Administrator. Click on Administrator to logon.
Then it will show you a screen which tell you that the windows is running in safe mode, press "No" on this message
You will be getting a system restore window. Follow the instruction for restore the windows to a date when the system was working fine, After restore Reboot in normal mode
Restart the laptop and keep pressing the F8 function key. You will get a menu. Try the safe mode option by selecting it with arrow keys and pressing enter. Click on Yes when it asks the question.
If Windows runs okay in safe mode, reboot and try starting normally without pressing any keys). If again it won't start, then go back to safe mode and when asked the Yes/No question, reply with a No and it will ask you to do a system restore. Just select a recent restore point say one or 2 days ago or the most recent and select restore. It will take some time and reboot the system. Now everything should be hopefully okay.
This generally is the indication that the hard drive has failed and needs replaced. You can try reloading the system, but 99% of the time when I see this the hard drive is shot.
