SOURCE: Propane patio heater ignition problem

I would change the thermocouple and here is why:

The thermocouple is the pilot's, well, co-pilot! It is the electronic device that senses if the pilot flame is hot enough to sustain burning the gas fuel from the burner. If the thermocouple thinks it's safe, then it keeps open the main gas valve located in the pilot assembly. If the thermocouple does not sense enough heat from the pilot flame (such as when the pilot is out), then the thermocouple shuts off the gas valve to the burners.
How the Thermocouple Works
So what is this thing and how does it work? Well the thermocouple (technically called a thermocouple junction) is a device that contains two metal wires welded at the ends and placed inside a protective metal case. The thermocouple sensor is found at the business end of the pilot flame and is designed to be placed in the hottest part of the flame. The other end is connected to the pilot valve body. As the thermocouple heats up, it produces a small amount of electricity and when it gets hot enough from the pilot, send a signal to open the gas valve by using a solenoid operated by a 24 volt transformer. The thermocouple calls the shots, and by converting heat to an electrical signal, it allows the gas valve to open or close. Once the gas valve is open, gas is then constantly supplied to the pilot and as required for the gas burners (as called for by the thermostat). If the pilot goes out, then the thermocouple gets cold and produces no electric signal to open the gas valve's solenoid and the gas valve shuts off the gas supply to the pilot and burners

SOURCE: the pilot light on my gas water heater continually goes out

getimage_new.asp?id=599586&imagetype=2&noimagetype=2&colorimagesize=2

The pilot assembly should look similar to the pic above. Depending on where you live, you may be required to hire a certified plumber to replace the parts. If not you can do it your self. Keep in mind if it's not staying lit you also need to check the thermostat and the thermocoupler before replacing the pilot assembly. There is a good chance it is just the thermocoupler going out. It is one of the first things to check when troubleshooting a pilot light problem with a gas water heater. A thermocouple determines if the pilot light is lit. If it's not lit, the gas valve fails. If that's the problem, replace the thermocouple.

  1. Shut off the gas valve on the water heater and the gas valve on the line near the heater. Remove outer and inner doors, and loosen the pilot and supply tubes and the thermocouple connections to remove the burner assembly.
  2. Step 2 Loosen the screw holding the thermocouple to the bracket. Remove old thermocouple. Bring it with you to the store to ensure you are buying the proper replacement.
  3. Step 3 Install the new thermocouple. Position the thermocouple so that the pilot flame heats 1/2 inch of the tip.
  4. Step 4 Reinstall burner assembly in the water heater. Tighten burner supply tube, pilot tube and thermocouple connections. Tighten thermocouple no more than a quarter turn more than hand-tight.
  5. Step 5 Turn on both gas valves. Check supply tube and pilot tube for leaks with soapy water. If soap bubbles, tighten connections to fix leak. Ignite the pilot light, and make sure the thermocouple tip is heating up. Replace inner and outer doors.

SOURCE: Pitco 35C+ fryer. Pilot lights fine; main burner

Its a simple design. If the thermophile does the work of powering the fryer control. Do you have a good pilot flame? If the pilot flame ain't good enough then the millivolts won't be enough to operate the solenoid on the gas valve. Most folks replace both the pilot and thermophile on these fryers since the grease makes such a mess of everything. If the pilot generator is fine then the gas valve is next.

0630535 Eurosit pilot works fine burner runs and turns off when burner is turned after 5-10 seconds

It sounds like there may be an issue with the gas control valve on your heating appliance, despite having replaced it with a new one. Based on your description, it appears that the pilot works fine, the burner runs, but it turns off after 5-10 seconds when the burner is turned on.
This problem could be caused by several issues, including a malfunctioning thermocouple, a problem with the gas line, a clogged orifice, or a malfunctioning control module.
To troubleshoot this issue, I would recommend checking the following:
  • Check the thermocouple, it could be faulty or not connected properly
  • Check the gas line and make sure there are no blockages, kinks or leaks
  • Check the orifice and make sure it's not clogged
  • Check the control module, it could be malfunctioning
If you have checked all these things and the issue persists, it's best to call for professional help as it may require specialized knowledge and skills to troubleshoot and fix the problem. It's important to note that working on gas appliances can be dangerous, and only qualified and licensed personnel should work on them.

630 Eurosit 0630535 gas fireplace pilot wouldn't stay on what needs replaced...

I'm in the middle of this right now. Y'all don't know what you're talking about. The thermocouple you can buy at the local hardware store has a different thread (fine) from the Eurosit TC (coarse) and doesn't fit. Now I'm trying to source a Eurosit TC. Any suggestions?
