Make sure the yellow permanent power wire is connected to a constant 12 volt source otherwise it will reset every time the unit is turned off. If the permanent power yellow is connected, there is a hardware fault in your head unit and will either need to be repaired or replaced. Also ensure the chassis of your head unit has a solid ground and the black negative wire is securely grounded. If you are able to tune it while it's turned on it means the control panel is functioning properly (sometimes the control panel contacts get dirty and prevent the unit controls from working properly)

I am having the same problem with the "initial setup" screen flashing repeatedly/ intermittently. It's not a problem with the remote. In the research I have done online, it seems as though this is a common/known problem with the Wegas that will require a service visit. Apparently the problem is a defective receiver chip. The best thread I found is at: http://www.agoraquest.com/viewtopic.php?topic=15393&forum=34&start=0&select_page_number=1 I've seen some speculation that it is caused by windex or cleaning fluid dripping down when the screen is cleaned and corroding one of the internal components. That's not applicable in my case, since I always just clean the screen with a microfiber dusting cloth. So, I guess I will be calling a repairman and spending $$$ to fix as it is now flashing up so often as to be unwatchable. Ridiculous, I think, given that my TV is only 3 years old!!

I have had the T743 for about three years now. The first unit which I got from the local shop was doing exactily like your described after couple of minutes use. Well, I took is back and got a new one covered by the warranty.
Unfortunately I never got any explanation to this problem from my local shop or anywhere else, so I guess the only way is to contact your local shop.
press the preset button on the front panel once then (TV should be on) the on the screen there should be words the likes of (Auto VHF 1 60.00mhz) now the Auto stands for auto tuning VHF stands for its frequency where its going to search the 1 stands for the channel where its going to start with 60.00mghz stands for the lowest signal to which its going to start now that you have understood all that just press the volume up button then it will automaticly locate all your working channels leave till it stops for when does it will start from channel 1 to which I believe that you be able to see the channel working so press the up button on the channel button to check the rest of your channels hope this will solve your problem!

9 times out of ten its the remote being the issue here try replacing the batteries ir cleaning the front where the remote sensor is that may help it. If you try-ed resetting the remote and still have issues this the remote will need to be replaced.
