Ascaso Dream espresso machine leaks steam out of the brew head when the steam wand function is on.

The brew head works well when its switch is on. The steam wand produces steam, but steam also comes out of the brew head. I just descaled it and cleaned and replaced o rings.

Hi,
Steam leaking from the group when the steam function is turned on:
This is normal - as there is a spring valve which stops the steam escaping normally, however if you are not using the steam wand - steam has to escape somewhere and is vented through the group.

It will not affect the steaming - but you are better to make coffee 1st and then steam the milk.
The new Dreams have endless steam - which is great for larger groups over for dinner .. When the steam button is switched off the extra steam will vent into the water tank - new models with solenoid. https://www.bluestarcoffee.eu/ascaso-dream-pid-4272-p.asp

SOURCE: Starbuck's Barista steam wand leak

remove the cover from the machine, loosen the allen screw that fastens the steam knob to the shaft, move it slightly and retighten to allow the knob to close the valve a bit more. I have had to do this a few times in the 9 years I've had my machine as either the knob loosens or the valve threads wear a bit.

SOURCE: breville espresso machine 800 ES

I have the same problem. It appears to be caused by a worn steam wand gasket that's inside the steam wand assembly which can be unscrewed from the Breville machine. This was confirmed by the folks at Breville. They referred me to www.thegourmetdepotco.com. That website does not sell the steam wand gasket separately. They sell "Frother Assembly MOdel #800ESXL-250" for $14.95. With tax ($1.42) and shipping via USPS ($5.65), the total is $22.02. A very high price for the failure of a simple plastic washer, but it beats buying a new machine!

Try adjusting the grind four numbers coarser and brew a coffee, if you are getting the same result then the brew unit is clogged and the screen needs to be cleaned.

I have an Ascaso Dream virsatile.Brewing temperature goes all the way to 240 F .Used to be about 210 F.What is wrong? Is it the Brewing termostate? Please help!

Hi Peter,

You may have an issue with the coffee thermostat or the gauge is not very accurate.
If you are extracting above 180F then the coffee should taste burnt and unpleasant. You should replace the thermostat, probably the steam thermostat as well.
It should be between 80°C/180°F degrees for the coffee and 100°C 212°F degrees for the steam.

Hi Mike,
You may have 2 issues.
Steam wand may be blocked;
Try descaling the machine 1st before you do any thing else.

1.Try removing the steam tip, if you don't get steam with tip removed, try removing wand, if you don't get steam then the steam pin may be blocked.

If after descaling coffee is still jst warm you could replace thermostats http://www.bluestarcoffee.eu/ascaso--boiler-thermostats-x-2-193-p.asp

If you still don't have steam after descaling and replacing thermostats then you may need to replace the o rings on steam pin.

Ascaso Dream water leak & bad shots

Hi
Sounds like you have a leak in the system. If your handy, you can remove the top. Remove everything. Water tank included. Unplug the machine. Now turn the machine upside down on a towel. There are 2 screws behind the brew head. Remove them, then lift the machine off the top and set it right side up. Now you can see the inside of the machine where the boiler is. Do not touch anything inside the machine. Replace everything and plug the machine in. Now turn the machine on and try to make a shot the same way. This should show you where your trouble is. Once you see where the trouble is, unplug the machine. Contact seattlecoffeegear.com, or 1st-line.com. They can help.

No steam on the Dream

Hi,

Initially, pls check for steam leaks. This model has been known to have issues with leaks preventing it from reaching the correct pressure/temperature. Since the leak could be visually checked, it would be a matter of determining at what point/component would the steam be coming out other than designated point. Often, it would be a joint with a rubber seal or a tubing entry point.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.
