I have an AP14001HS - EdgeStar Extreme Cool 14,000 BTU portable AC/Heater unit. Can I override the thermostat with a programmable one?

This is in a game room of a vacation rental property. We have other VERA controlled remote programmable thermostats for the main house. I'd like to control/monitor this unit's usage in the same way - is this possible?

SOURCE: Freezer won't defrost

savey73,
I think I know what is wrong. First the defrost thermostat you are talking about I believe is the round metal type with possibly a pink and an orange wire coming out of it. That is not the defrost thermostat as most people know it. That is a defrost overheat termination thermostat that opens only over 140 degrees F, that is why your old good one and your new good one show closed at room temp. If you read on the outside of the metal cover you will find it has a L140 indicating the limit of 140 deg.
Now to what should be causing your problem. You should find on the evaporator coil at the top left side of the evaporator coil a part that has 2 white wires going into what looks like about a 1" long X 1/4" round plastic thing. That little white plastic thing is a THERMISTOR. If it is bad your defrost will not work. Sounds like that is the only thing you have not replaced. There is no polarization of the wires That should FixYa

SOURCE: Rinnai 1004 - Temp on thermostat reads 10 deg cooler than actual, keeps running

Behind the unit near the floor level, is a yellow wire with a black bulb at the end. This is the actual sensor for returning air. If there is cool air infiltrating the area where it is located, it will keep the unit running until the return air reaches temperature. You could also have a bad sensor but highly unlikely. Make sure there is no air infiltration influencing the sensor. Also, you can unclip the sensor and pull out a few more inches of wire to locate it higher up away from the floor. Tie it up with a wire tie.

Rinnai it testing a remote thermostat but as of yet, there is no plans to offer one.

SOURCE: PROGRAMMABLE ROOM THERMOSTAT

I found this on a search:
"I have the full set of instructions, contact me at [email protected]
Not a very reliable system, transmitter keeps resetting to 17:25; locks up. Whole system then requires setting up from scratch. Had a replacement transmitter, no change, and same faults.

Perhaps this can help.

Sears has a diagram that if you click on it will expand it and you can pan around. If that isn't sufficient, you might try emailing the distributor directly: email to [email protected]

My braker keeps tripping with only the tv on and electronics that barely use a lot of juice. it doesn't seem like it pumping out enough cool air for 14,000 btu's either

14,000 btu is a very large unit it should be on a dedicated cuircut of either 15 or 20 amps all by itself.check the rating plate for correct amperage

I am getting alot of water leaking out of the unit.

I live with my husband and three sons in a house that we almost never succeed in cooling enough every summer. But a few months back, my uncle mentioned that he had recently purchased a new model of air conditioner by Plasma Cool called Plasma Cool Portable PC-14E that required no draining and came equipped with technology to remove most of the humidity from the air. We checked this ac out at his home, and the next thing we did was researched all the no drain acs with evaporative booster out there in the market to see if there was anything better than the one my uncle had. But the only one that met our needs and budget was Plasma Cool Portable PC-14E. At 14,000 BTU, this ac is 40-50% more powerful than similar acs in the market and covers upto 500 sq. ft. Look for this product on www.plasmacoolportableac.com which lays out the features and specifications in easy and comprehensible fashion without coming across as trying too hard to sell you the product. We just finished the 30 day trial period, and now own the ac. We are very satisfied and are considering purchasing another unit soon.

Cooling on and off

Behind the filter there should be a small metal tube that senses the temp. entering the unit sometime this is too close to the metal fins and sense the cold from the fins and not the air coming in. Make sure this is away from the fins and try a different temp. setting. And relocating the unit. These units tend to give off more heat that cooling because the hot air is returned to the inside of the room and not vented outside like window units. This is an  EdgeStar 12,000 BTU unit, correct?
