I have a Sony VAIO VGN-N250E Notebook, purchased Jan 31, 2007. It is running Windows Vista Home Premium Edition. A few days ago, I was on the internet just surfing- running a couple of browsers and AIM but nothing out of the ordinary. The machine froze up for no apparent reason and wouldn't unfreeze. Using the main power button, I shut off the computer. When I attempted to power the computer back on, the battery light and the power light came on, however the CPU light and the LAN light would not come on. There was an initial click or two from the CPU and a very short flash of light from the CPU light indicator- but no further activity.
I'm assuming this means that my motherboard is gone. Am I correct?

I removed the hard drive so I can get a hard drive enclosure and retrieve my data- the computer still will not start up, is doing the same exact thing.
Is there a chance that it could be the PSU?
