No sound, no picture following a mini explosion in the rear

42'' Gateway Flat Panel Plasma TV.Picture began to show color blue interferennce, then buzzing, finaly a ''POP'' with heat at the top left area looking at the back panel. Lost picture and sound. Is a repair possible?

Yes it can be repaired, the y-sus and z-sus boards are most likely bad. would require a qualified shop to repair it as there are adjustments to be made to the new boards.
