Black box in middle of screen

It's a text box for either closed captioning or demonstration mode. Go into the setup menu and turn off closed captioning. If you have trouble doing that, then just restore factory settings.

it maybe you blue crt (picture tube). mine turn blue and then shuts off. i got it repaired for 460. 300 for the part 160 to install. you can try to adjust the voltage settings behind the speaker screen and see if that clears the problem. if not its you blue crt.

Sony KV-35S42 35" TV

Check first for bad solder on the vertical IC, Im not sure for your set as I do not have the service manual, but it may be location IC301. If after resoldering it does not fix it you may have to replace it and you should replace the electrolytic capacitors in the vertical section. Hope this helps. Don
