Because the camera can not record when the cap is on just like u cant see with ur eyes closed. So remove lens cap.

CCD Failure/Lens Cap Warning Error JVC has received reports that in certain circumstances, the following models may, while in the camera mode, show no picture, a distorted picture and/or display “LENS CAP” even though the lens cap is removed. We have identified the probable cause as a failure of the CCD image sensor. Repairs of units exhibiting these problems as a result of a defect in the CCD image sensor will be made free of charge at a JVC Authorised Service Centre even if the unit is outside warranty.
Please call our Consumer Support Department on 0870-330-5000 to obtain your free repair. We apologise for any inconvenience and we appreciate your understanding and support.
Please note that this offer expires on 30th June 2009 and is applicable only to failure of the CCD image sensor.

I had the very same problem with my gr d33 dv camcorder, very frustrating..I rang the jvc service support centre on 0870 330 5000,and spoke to a very helpful chap called kevin ,they ask when and where you bought it and the serial number which is underneath the cam,the fault is with a ccd sensor and a common problem with many jvc cams ..they offer a free repair up to june 2009 for some models iv`e checked and yours is valid for repair..they arrange to pick it up from your house and back all free..they took mine and returned it in 5 days which is a very good .and it works perfect .Hope iv`e been of some help to you..

My GR-X5AA says "Lens Cap" when turn on camera.It comes when lens cap remove from the lens also.But i can't take still images and record a vedio.I can play recorded videos and images.Please help me.

Your camera lens has a problem. If you have background repairing such. Try to open and clean the iris curtain(shutter) with methyl alcohol or any other alcohol base cleaner. Must be open and bring those curtain out to clean it effectively. Otherwise have it checked by JVC Service Center near you. Good luck

Cannot record

if the lens cap auto closes, when it is on, try to tap slowly near the lens, very gently, and check again....repeat several times, it should work. the other options are taking it to qualified service tech, just beacuse its has very fine gears.....try it, reason for tapping is, the switch indicator is stuck, and gives wrong signal...dust paritcals could be the reason for that..

You have a defective CCD imager - the part of the lens that receives the image. Will need to be replaced.

I cant find a solution but causes may be :
1. Did you remove the LENSE CAP ?
2. PRobably there is a small switch that tells the camera that LENSE CAP is on or something dunno

About that recording problem
1. LCD Broken?
2. Other technical issues ...

Camcorder keeps asking me to remove lens cap

Contact JVC, they fix this error FREE. They fixed my GRD-50. It's a common fault with lots of them. Give it a go. Good luck.
