I bought a 2nd generation Shuffle and cannot get this to charge properly. I have registered the iPod and loaded my songs, but it doesn't charge. I have tried it with both the shuffle on and off.
Found a 2005 ipod mini A1051 at thrift store which is still registered to previous owner. Would like to completely remove all data and restore it to factory settings and re-register it in my name. Am I able to do this if it is still registered to original owner?Found a 2005 ipod mini A1051 at thrift store which is still registered to previous owner. Use iPod Reset Utility to restore the following iPod models back to
their factory settings when iTunes is unable to do so. The process

version listed below:
iPod shuffle (1st generation) - iPod Software version 1.1.5
iPod shuffle (2nd generation) - iPod Software version 1.0.4
download here
http://support.apple.com/downloads/iPod_Reset_Utility_1_0_4_for_Windows
then install..
follow these instructions..
Using iPod Reset Utility
Quit all running applications on your computer.
Open iPod Reset Utility.
Connect iPod to a USB port on your computer. Do not connect iPod
to a USB port on your keyboard, or other non-powered USB hub.
Click the Reset button.
If prompted, enter an administrator name and password. Notice:
Do not disconnect iPod during the reset process.
When complete, quit iPod Reset Utility and open iTunes to load
music onto iPod.
you are still under warranty...take it to the sony apple store...they will fix it /replace it or tell you there is cost if it not the battery (note do not tell them you charged overnight, and for the future do chage any gadgets more than 3-4 hrs) when you do charge over night you are actually shorten the battery life span or overcharge....so as soon as you come home from school, work, whatever cell/ipod or any other device needs to be charge...charge it now and unplug before you go to bed....
Hold in the play button for 10 seconds to reset. If that fails:
iPod shuffle Software Update and Restore
Apple periodically updates iPod shuffle software to improve performance or add
features. It is recommended that you update your iPod shuffle to use the latest
software.
You can choose either to update or to restore the iPod shuffle software.
• If you choose to update, the software is updated, but your settings and songs are not
affected.
• If you choose to restore, all songs and data are erased from your iPod shuffle. All
iPod shuffle settings are restored to their original state.
To update or restore iPod shuffle with the latest software:
1 Go to www.apple.com/support/ipod and download the latest iPod Update. The update
has the latest software for all models of iPod.
2 Double-click the software install file and follow the onscreen instructions to install the
iPod shuffle Update.
3 Connect iPod shuffle to your computer and open iTunes. The iPod Updater application
opens.
If you’re using a Windows PC and the iPod Updater application doesn’t open
automatically, you can find the updater by choosing Start > All Programs > iPod.
4 Follow the onscreen instructions to update or restore iPod shuffle software.
If you use the iPod Updater application and it doesn’t see that iPod shuffle is
connected to your computer, turn iPod shuffle off and turn it on again.
I can not remember where to put the button to listen to my ipod shuffle songs in order.I downloaded a song and have not heard it on my ipod yet. Thanks,Mary
You have to keep all the songs that you want on your iPod on your computer, otherwise you will get this problem. So if you want song "a" on your iPod it must also be in your iTunes library at all times unless you don't want it on your iPod anymore
I am not sure about the 1st generation but the 2nd generation definitely charges via the USB connection. If you don't hear the music its because there are no songs on your device. When you initially add songs, they go to the Library in iTunes, not the Shuffle. Just drag and drop your songs from the "Library" to your "Device" in iTunes and then you'll notice them get sync'd with the Shuffle.
i cant turn it on when it came off the dock
