HCL4715W - Shut off unexpectedly and won't power on..

I have a HCL4715W rear projection HDTV.

Last night it shut off - and now it won't power on. Instead, the red timer light on the front panel just blinks a few times and then it shuts off again.

Is it a bulb problem ? Any help would be appreciated.

After a power drop to 68vac for a couple of minuets the picture was darker and after this the picture was reduced in size with a 3" black border and hte color convergence was out, a so called Samsung tech came ad expanded the picture and then everytime the picture went bright it cut out, I would switch off and back on and it was OK until the next time, setting the color to low contrast and britness and it was ok, for longer. Then one night I switched on and it went Pheeeeewww and died. Samsung in Spain say they cannot (or will not) repair it.

It is most likely the convergence amps causing the problem.. With the power off and the unit unplugged remove the back. In the upper right corner - looking in the back - you'll see a board with two relatively large Ic's on it marked STK392-040. On the left corner of the board there is a connector, the board is marked +/-20v... Unplug that connector and plug the Tv back into power and try turning it on... If it powers up with audio you've just diagnosed your first Samsung.

You have three options here (1) buy the whole board and replace it, (2) send the board out for repair, or (3) buy the amps and 3.9 low ohm resistors to repair it yourself... It will all depend on the skill level you think you have..

If it's limited, sending the board in would be my suggestion and I'd recommend sending it to a shop that can modify the board with a cooling fan, like the picture above, to eliminate as much heat as possible. We modify them automatically for the ones we get in here. It's a $60.00 modification but it will save you from replacing the Ic's every couple of years.

If I can help any further just let me know.

PS. The amps aren't cheap either - about $30.00 a piece...

I shut the tv off last night and now it won't turn

If total dead (no lights on blinking etc) follow power cord into the set and find and check the main fuse--in this set it usually is a glass 5 amp fuse.

Screen turned solid red, and tv shuts down . worked fine last night.

Most likely cause of that is a red CRT has shorted which will shut the set down.

Phillips Rear Projection HDTV just shuts off.

I reacon it might be nearly as cheap to replace the tv because there are only 2 thing which can cause this problem dry joints on the solder ( Quite rare on this type of telly) or the line output transformer and that will cost you nearly a hundred pounds

Working fine, then shut off.. won't come on, no power

A clogged air vent will cause the unit to overheat and not turn on.

Tv possessed by the devil

The d52w20 processor will shut the set down if it detect one of many problems. this processor generates an error log. technicains have computers that can read those errors. to help find out trouble.. common problems include bad horizont output. flyback and signal board. for the fact it comes on indicates to me power defection issues
