Everytime i plug in my Samsung 47"TV, the screen wont go on and there is a click every 5 seconds or so with a constant chirping, almost like a bird. Is it an easy fix? and would I be able to try a few things out before having to spend $1000 on a new one. Model: HCL4715W, 1080i, 480p
The clicking is caused by bad capacitors on the mainboard. It is a known problem that is pretty easy to fix. I have never soldered before and I was able to fix it for about 6 bucks! If you take off the back cover (about 18 screws) the mainboard is right in the middle and in the top right corner are 4 capacitors. They are in a row from top on down. Check to see if any of them are bulged on top and if they are they are bad. All you have to do is go to radio shack and get 10u35 volt capacitors and solder them in to replace the bulged ones. The ones that came with the set are under powered and these will fix the problem. Most people are quoted about $500 or more to fix this when a little work on our own works wonders!! If anyone wants more info I am on facebook! Brian Miller in Wisconsin!

my screen on my samsung hcl4715w has split into blue and red pictures right next to each other. I have a feeling that it is a bulb that is out. I just need to know which one.
These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.
Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer, Hitachi, Zenith, and others. You can get a convergenece repair kit wiith instructions from the links below.
Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...
Problem #1) Convergence

Problem #2
Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

After 5 years of excellent peformance, the convergence problem began to show up, first as an intermitent loss of convergence over a period of about six months. Finally, yesterday the blue and green curved into a horizontal arc (pin cushion?)ie top and bottom half curved in towards the center of the screen. Blue convergence adjustment now has no effect. Red seems ok as it is still linear and still adjustable. Video and sound is OK. Need advice on possible areas of concern particularly on a most likely chip that governs the green and blue crt convergence controls. The symptoms of intermitent failure to total failure of the convergence adjustment seems to indicate a possible gradual degradation of a certain chip rather than an intermitent connection or a bad solder joint. Any advice from anyone with a similar experience?
Replace both convergence IC's part# STK392-040. Also check for burnt/discolored resistors nearby.

What does it mean when you hear a loud pop and the tv turns off and will not turn back on.
Most likely what happened is that the lamp in your TV shattered and is going to need replacing.

My samsung hcl4715w is showing three of everything. One red, one blue, one green. Could anyone please tell me whats wrong and how much it might cost. Thanks what is IC? Does anyone have the part numbers of the IC's,resistors and Caps for the Samsung HCL 4715W. I m having the same trouble of viewing three colors on my screen and the screen is Bowed in view. When I hit the focus button, only the green comes one, it jiggles on the screen and doesn't go through its normal focus diagnostic. IF anyone can help, email me at: [email protected] I don't want to pay 375. to 450. I am handy with the soldering iron as long as the parts are "through-hole" I don't have a manual or schematic. Joe
It is a convergence problem. The IC's (integrated circuits) or STK chips or the "guns". You have a red,and blue, IC's that provide all the colors. When the colors are out of convergence, you get ghosting or what looks like 3D pictures. I haven't been able to locate the part numbers for the IC's or STK chips but have located a convergence board. No luck determining if IC's are included (a phone call first to verify) but if they are, would make life much easier for you to install. Part # is BP95-00415H http://jr.partsearch.com/Part/Samsung/Samsung/BP9500415H/New.aspx?ModelMfgName=Samsung&ModelBrandName=Samsung&ModelNumber=HCL4715W
Typically, IC's cost around $10 or less. here is a link to a guy who provides pretty good instructions on replacing the IC's along with pictures.

Just put in a new PCB SUB because of convergence problem. Convegence is fixed, but a little blurry picture and colors are a little off. Do I need to get a tech in for fine tuning adjustments? Or is there something I can do?
The focus controls on this set are in the front behind the bezel. I'm not sure, but, I think on this age of Samsung, the screws to the front bezel are on the back side of the set. After removing the screws from the back, the front bezel snaps off and the door behind the bezel need to be removed. Watch the wires connected to the bezel, they need to be attached in order to turn on the set. The focus controls are on a black control block (there are three of them, one for each color). Adjust each color for sharpest picture. I use words on the screen for alignment. Each CRT board has a screen control (Adjust each slowly until retrace lines appear on the screen and then back off until they disappear). You may turn off the color and make sure that the picture is black and white. If it is not, then, which ever color is dominant, back it off a bit with that screen control. Facing the set, Red is left, Green is middle and Blue is on the right. Use only one hand inside an operating television. Do not touch the board, just the controls. This concludes television alignment 101. Any questions respond to this post and I'll reply.

I got a new board and installed it. It didn't fix the problem. i can unplug the board turn on the tv and it looks the same as it does plugged in?
Wally
The Convergence ICs will need to be replaced , 95% of the time thats the problem they are on the sub board not the convergence board. You will need two STK392-040 ICs . you can get replacements at the following link and they will provide free installation instructions along with free on-line tech support when you install them. takes about 45 minutes. Heres the link.

Blue image is ghosting and not lining up with other colors. Perfect focus is on but with "no sensor data" message at top
The tv have a problems known as a convergene problems,it dead.Tv have colors lines R,G,B mis alignments, have colors shadow pictures or 3D pictures look alike? The tv convergence board have dead 2 STK convergence ICS and some or all of it resistors too. These parts on the tv convergnce board, must be replaced to solved the tv picture convergence problems. Can u do basic things like take things aparts and install another things into it placed?Yes?Try website like Tvrepairworld.com to buy a whole refurbish convergence board for the replacement. The DLP tvs Samsung/Akai tvs used the same convergence board.Or the shop, will cost u like $300-350 for parts and labors.
